Is this the dawn of a new era in the Middle East?

The Gaza war and its aftermath in Lebanon and Syria seem to have strengthened the hands of Israel and Turkey, while weakening those of Iran and its allies. At the same time, the return of Trump appears to have brought the US even closer to Israel, and upped its opposition to Iran.

But how much this is truly a departure from the past should not be overstated. Most powers, such as in the Gulf and Egypt, have had to adapt to the new circumstances, but their policy positions have not drastically altered.

Israeli forces continue their brutal assault on Tulkarm for 49th consecutive day

WAFA correspondent reported that Israeli forces continue demolishing homes in various neighborhoods of the Tulkarm refugee camp, forcing residents to leave under threat and intimidation, particularly targeting the areas of Al-Murabba‘at Hannoun, Qaqoon, and Abu Al-Foul.

Eyewitnesses stated that there was a wave of displacement in the Tulkarm refugee camp after midnight, following home raids, searches, and the destruction of personal belongings. Additionally, Israeli forces handed eviction notices to residents of the neighborhood of Dhannaba, near the camp, ordering them to vacate their homes by noon today.

On Saturday, Israeli forces forcibly evicted the remaining residents of Al- Murabba‘at Hannoun neighborhood in Tulkarm refugee camp, threatening to detain anyone found in their homes afterward.

In a further escalation, Israeli troops deployed infantry units inside the camp‘s alleys this morning, chasing residents as they tried to leave their homes to gather basic supplies. Forces seized more homes, converting them into military posts and sniper positions.

Israel kills over 150 Palestinians since ceasefire, including 40 in past two weeks: Gaza Media Office

“We have observed the occupation deliberately escalating its field crimes against civilians in recent weeks, targeting individuals collecting firewood or inspecting their homes, resulting in their deaths by Israeli army fire,” the office said in a statement.

The remarks came after an Israeli air strike on Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, which killed nine Palestinians, including journalists and humanitarian aid workers.

Condemning the attack as a “heinous massacre”, the Gaza Media Office accused Israel of escalating its aggression amid reports of increased military directives from Israeli leadership.

The office rejected Israel’s justification, saying the targeted individuals were all civilians working in a shelter area, conducting media documentation for a charitable organization.

‘The streets are empty, no one dares go outside’: Syria’s Alawites terrorised by revenge killings

Hayan was lucky – they chose merely to scare not kill him – but by the time the rampage finally ended, 25 residents of the Alawite town of Salhab, northwest Syria, were dead. They included a 90-year-old local religious figure whom militants killed after forcing him to watch them murder his son.

Such massacres had become a feature of Syria’s 14-year civil war, but Salhab’s violence last week took place during some of the country’s deadliest days since the beginning of the war itself. Besides the high death toll, what marked these killings as different — and a dark omen for the country’s future — is that many were carried out by militants nominally a part of the new Syrian army created by the country’s new president.

Houthis say children among 31 killed after US fighter jets bomb Yemen

The US raids, the most significant military action since Trump’s return to power in January, came after Yemen’s Houthis threatened to resume raids on Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea over Israel’s blockade on Gaza.

The US attacks, which began on Saturday and continued into the early hours of Sunday, on the Yemeni capital Sanaa, as well as on areas in Saada, Al Bayda and Radaa killed 31 people and wounded 101, “most of whom were children and women”, health ministry spokesperson Anis Al-Asbahi posted on X.

Trump says ‘decisive’ military action against Houthis in Yemen is underway

He said US personnel were carrying out aerial attacks on Houthi bases, leaders and missile defenses “to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets, and to restore Navigational Freedom.”

“No terrorist force will stop American commercial and naval vessels from freely sailing the Waterways of the World,” Trump wrote.

Trump also delivered a warning for Iran, the Houthis’ main backer, saying it must “immediately” end support for the group. He warned that if Iran threatened the American people or their president, “America will hold you fully accountable and, we won’t be nice about it!”
