IDF general warns further Gaza fighting could break out
The head of the Israel Defense Forces’ Southern Command indicates he anticipates fighting to again break out in the Gaza Strip, saying that the conflict last month was only the “first stage” of a wider campaign.
“The operation ended, or at least its first stage did. The next stage will happen if we see that the security situation has changed,” Maj. Gen. Eliezer Toledano says in an on-stage interview at a conference held by Israel’s Channel 13 news.

Khalil al-Haya spoke after meeting Abbas Kamel, who visited Gaza after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a trip aimed at shoring up an informal ceasefire brokered by Cairo.
MK Tamar Zandberg @tamarzandberg and her partner Uri Zaki @urizaki had to flee their Tel Aviv home and go into hiding following death threats, apparently inspired by Netanyahu‘s hate-filled speech suggesting that Zandberg was unfit to serve in the Cabinet.

Arab Lawmakers Back Lapid Move to Replace Knesset Speaker
Hadash, one of the three parties making up the Joint List, is opposed as a matter of principle to a government headed by the right-wing Bennett, but the Joint List is also committed to preventing Netanyahu from benefitting from the faction’s votes in the Knesset. Therefore, if there are any further defections from the ranks of the Knesset members from the future coalition, the Joint List’s decision to vote against the new government would be reevaluated.

The Lapid-Bennett coalition‘s candidate for the job is Yesh Atid‘s Mickey Levy. The request, signed by 61 out of 120 lawmakers, means a vote on the key position is set for the next time the Knesset convenes on Monday.
