Gaza death toll from Israel‘s deadly aggression surpasses 72,553

Gaza, April 20, 2026 (WAFA) – Medical sources in the Gaza Strip announced today that the death toll from the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has risen to 72,553 while 172,296 others were wounded.

The sources also announced that two people were killed and 22 others were injured in the past 24 hours as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip.

They explained that a number of victims remain under the rubble and in the streets, as ambulance and civil defense teams have been unable to reach them so far.

They indicated that since the ceasefire on October 11, the total number of slain people has reached 777, while the number of injuries has reached 2,193, in addition to 761 cases of body recovery.

Israel flattening civilian buildings in southern Lebanon during truce, say commanders

Israel has continued to systematically flatten civilian buildings in southern Lebanon during the ceasefire, according to a report in Haaretz on Sunday.

A 10-day pause in hostilities in Lebanon began on Thursday last week.

But since then, Israeli army commanders have told Haaretz that systematic destruction of civilian buildings in southern villages was continuing to take place.

The commanders said civilian engineering tools had been brought into the area, including excavators, and were being operated by paid Israeli civilian contractors.

Hungary‘s Magyar: ‚Netanyahu would be arrested if he came to Hungary‘

Speaking on his administration‘s commitment to international law, Magyar confirmed his intention to keep Hungary as an active member of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He noted that his legal team has thoroughly reviewed the matter and concluded that Hungary must honor its treaty commitments. „I made it clear that Hungary intends to remain a member of the International Criminal Court,“ Magyar stated, adding that if an individual under an ICC arrest warrant enters a member state’s territory, „they must be taken into custody.“

EU to widen Iran sanctions to those deemed ‘responsible’ for blocking Hormuz

The European Union will ⁠expand the ⁠criteria of its Iran sanctions to include those responsible for blocking the Strait of Hormuz, two unnamed EU diplomats tell Reuters.

“There was a political agreement among ⁠ambassadors that we indeed would change the ⁠criteria in Iran’s sanctions regime so that we could also list persons and entities that are responsible for the obstruction of the freedom ⁠of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” one of the diplomats said.

US Navy fires upon and boards Iranian container ship Touska

US armed forces fired a five-inch gun at the engine room of Iranian-flagged container ship Touska to disable the vessel before boarding and seizing the ship as part of the US blockade of Iran’s ports.

AIS data appears to show the vessel was around 40 nautical miles from Iran‘s Chabahar port at the time of the incident.

US Central Command posted a video on twitter showing Touska viewed from the deck of a US Navy ship.
