Due to the retirement of OpenSSL v1.0.2 from support. This will result in the addition of support for TLS v1.3 and its cipher suites, as well as 37 new cipher suites for TLS v1.2. There are several performance and security enhancements in TLS v1.3 when upgraded products are at both ends of the connection.

Asymmetric encryption is used during the “handshake”, which takes place prior to any data being sent. The handshake determines which cipher suite to use for the session – in other words, the symmetric encryption type – so that both browser and server agree. The TLS 1.2 protocol took multiple round trips between client and server, while TLS 1.3 is a much smoother process that requires only one trip. This latency saving shaves milliseconds off each connection.

In Microsoft‘s Windows 11 blog post, the word „privacy“ doesn‘t appear once in the copy, which doesn‘t exactly bode well for its messaging. Windows 11 will force users to use a Microsoft Account in its free Home Edition, which already speaks of a business model where your data is the monetization engine. Even if you‘re using the world‘s best VPN, it‘s not exactly going to protect your data from going directly to Microsoft if you‘re signed in.
