The experiences of residents in the border villages highlight a delicate and dangerous reality, particularly after the discovery of the bodies of Ahmed and Mohammad Medlej in Fadeliyeh, inside Syrian territory.
The Medlej brothers, who were married to Syrian women, were part of the minority groups that remained in the area after receiving assurances. Their deaths remain a mystery.
National News Agency correspondent in Hermel reported that clashes have renewed on the Lebanese-Syrian border north of Hermel, after the town of Hawsh al-Sayyid Ali was subjected to shelling from the Syrian side.
In response, Lebanon’s presidency said Monday that tensions on the country’s frontier with Syria “cannot go on.”
“What is happening on the eastern and northeastern borders cannot go on, and we will not accept its continuation,” the presidency said on X, adding that President Joseph Aoun has instructed the military to respond “to the source of fire.”
Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon killed four people on Sunday, Lebanese state media and the health ministry said, as Israel‘s military said it had killed two Hizbollah militants.
Minister Abdel Aty highlighted the broad regional and international support for Egypt‘s reconstruction plan. He announced ongoing preparations for an international conference in Cairo to secure the necessary funding for the plan‘s implementation.
Additionally, he proposed that the United Nations Security Council consider establishing an international presence in Palestinian territories, potentially through deploying peacekeeping or protection forces, to ensure stability and support the path toward establishing an independent Palestinian state.

The death toll in Gaza has risen to 48,572, the majority being women and children, since the Israeli genocidal war began in October 2023, according to local health authorities.
Over the past 48 hours, hospitals in Gaza have received the bodies or remains of 14 victims after being pulled out from the rubble, in addition to 15 newly reported fatalities and 51 injuries, the sources confirmed.
Alawieh, a Rhode Island transplant doctor and assistant professor at Brown University, was detained on Thursday in Boston after visiting family in Lebanon, her cousin claimed in a lawsuit challenging Alawieh‘s detention.
Sorokin ordered on Friday that Alawieh be kept in the U.S. and brought to a court hearing on Monday. He wrote Monday morning that „Dr. Alawieh is now in Lebanon.“

On Sunday, Sorokin ordered the government to explain before the now-canceled Monday hearing why Alawieh was removed. Lawyers for her family claimed the government „willfully“ disobeyed his order by sending Alawieh outside the U.S.
