Die SPD erzielt mit 16 Prozent der Stimmen ihr schlechtestes Ergebnis bei Bundes- und Landtagswahlen im Norden überhaupt. Das sind 11,3 Prozent weniger als bei der Landtagswahl 2017. 61.000 Wähler verloren die Sozialdemokraten an die CDU, 37.000 an die Grünen und 14.000 an den SSW. Ihr zuvor schlechtestes Landtagswahl-Ergebnis in Schleswig-Holstein hatte die SPD 2009 mit 25,4 Prozent erzielt.

Putins Rede zum Ukraine-Krieg
In einer Rede auf dem Roten Platz in Moskau während der Feierlichkeiten zum Gedenken an den Sieg über Nazi-Deutschland im Zweiten Weltkrieg zog Putin am Montag Parallelen zwischen dem Kampf der Roten Armee gegen die Nationalsozialisten und dem Vorgehen der russischen Streitkräfte in der Ukraine.
Der Kremlchef betonte zudem, es handele sich bei der russischen Invasion um einen präventiven Schritt, der dazu diene, das „Vaterland“ vor der „inakzeptablen Gefahr“ zu verteidigen, die das vom Westen unterstützte Nachbarland für Russland darstelle.

1. Today, on 8 May, we, the Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7), alongside Ukraine and the wider global community, commemorate the end of the Second World War in Europe and the liberation from fascism and the National Socialist reign of terror, which caused immeasurable destruction, unspeakable horrors and human suffering. We mourn the millions of victims and offer our respect, especially to all those who paid the ultimate price to defeat the National Socialist regime, including the western Allies and the Soviet Union.
2. Seventy-seven years later, President Putin and his regime now chose to invade Ukraine in an unprovoked war of aggression against a sovereign country. His actions bring shame on Russia and the historic sacrifices of its people. Through its invasion of and actions in Ukraine since 2014, Russia has violated the international rules-based order, particularly the UN Charter, conceived after the Second World War to spare successive generations from the scourge of war.

Russia’s withdrawal from northern Ukraine has turned the outskirts of Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city, into the conflict’s northernmost front. Kharkiv is not part of the Donbas, a pro-Russian separatist region where the Kremlin is focusing its military efforts. However, there have been relentless strikes and fighting around this city of 1.5 million – most of whom are Russian speakers – since day one of the invasion. Ukrainians said they had pushed the Russians back 40 kilometers (24.9 miles) east of the city, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
