This was Ansarallahâs âdeadliestâ attack on Saudi-backed forces âin years,â according to sources cited by other news agencies.
The attack involved sniper fire followed by drone and mortar strikes. Ansarallah reportedly overran Saudi-backed government positions before a counterattack saw Riyadhâs proxies retake the area.
The confrontation marks a significant escalation along a front that has remained largely frozen since the 2022 UN-brokered truce.
Eleven air raids hit the Yemeni capital Sanaa, including the vicinity of Al-Sabeen Square, where around one million people were taking part in a weekly pro-Palestine march.
The Harf Sufyan District was hit by 12 airstrikes in the Amran Governorate of northern Yemen, while six hit the Hodeidah port west of the country. One strike also targeted the Ras Issa port north of Hodeidah.
The main power station in Haziz, south of Sanaa, was struck as well.
Israelâs military said it attacked sites in Yemen controlled by Houthi fighters, including a power station near the capital Sanaa, and the ports of Hodeidah and Ras Isa.
Several people have been killed in an Israeli air strike in Lebanonâs south with Israelâs military saying later that it was still âcommitted to the understanding of the ceasefireâ with Lebanon.
The government source, who asked to remain anonymous, said that representatives of the Saudi-backed government and the Houthi rebels at the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) attended a meeting with presence of General Patrick Cammaert, the UN cease-fire chief monitor aboard a ship in Hodeidah province.
The port can handle seven ships at once, but the WFP says that as of Monday, only a single ship was present. The WFP estimates two months of food left in Yemen, which grows almost no food of its own.
