Lawmakers push and pull over $750B defense policy bill NDAA top line at HASC markup
(12.06.2019)
Rebuking at the House bill’s $733 billion top line, which is $17 billion less than the Trump administration requested, panel Republicans threw their weight behind an amendment to add the money back. The GOP-controlled Senate is due to consider a rival $750 billion bill that passed the Senate Armed Services Committee in May.
Just in: Deval Patrick is heading to Texas this weekend to begin campaigning for midterms candidates, as he test runs his message and considers a 2020 presidential bid. Via @AnnieLinskey
Tritt Trump 2020 wieder an?
If Progressives Don‘t Win In 2020, It‘s All Over…
Progressives have one last chance to save democracy. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down.
Sanders-backed DNC plan sparks superdelegate revolt
The resisting superdelegates’ odds of success are long. The proposal has the support of DNC Chairman Tom Perez and two former DNC chairs — former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean and Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s 2016 running mate. And the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee, following months of discussion, voted without dissent on Wednesday to recommend the plan to full DNC. The proposal was backed by many Clinton supporters, as well.
Mitt Romney predicts Donald Trump will win in 2020 ‚solidly.‘ Is he right?
Much of Romney‘s calculus is based on his belief that Democrats will ultimately choose „someone who is really out of the mainstream of American thought.“ And they might! But the 2020 Democratic field is totally in flux at the moment and it‘s literally impossible to anticipate who might eventually be the nominee and why.
DNC Gives Itself the Power to Veto Presidential Candidates
Washington, D.C. — The DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee met in Providence, R.I. on Friday, June 8 and declared a new rule that allows the party to block presidential candidates from running on the Democratic ballot.
The rule states that in order to be accepted as a candidate by the DNC, the applicants’ “public writings and/or statements” must “affirmatively demonstrate that they are faithful to the interests, welfare and success of the Democratic Party of the United States.”
The new rule means that a committee of corporate lobbyists, consultants, and people who participated in rigging the 2016 primary election will decide if a progressive is eligible to run for president in the Democratic Party in 2020. When Bernie Sanders or another progressive files to run as a Democrat, the DNC can reject them before a single vote is cast.
DNC Rule Change May Block Bernie Sanders from Running as Democrat in 2020
While Sanders has not said anything concrete about running for president again in two years, his 2016 campaign manager Jeff Weavers hinted at the possibility during an interview with C-SPAN host John McArdle in May.
“He is considering another run for the presidency and when the time comes I think we‘ll have an answer for that. But right now he‘s still considering it,” Weavers said.
Democrats watching the news right now! #Trump2020
The @DNC sent out a poll asking who you want to run in 2020. I selected #BernieSanders & @SenWarren. Right now #JoeBiden is in the lead & #Oprah has 3.5%?♂️. The options show you how bad of a train wreck 2020 might be if Dems didn’t learn from 2016.
With Clinton out of the picture, stampede of 2020 Dems hits New Hampshire
New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley says his phone’s ringing off the hook with calls from likely White House contenders.
“There are so many potential contenders wanting to come up for our events, it’s just mind-blowing, the activity,” he told Fox News.
Run, Tulsi, Run!
The name of Tulsi Gabbard is gaining momentum in discussions everywhere. Specifically, the topic of a bid for President of the United States for her is a highly trending topic. She is a personality powerhouse and a figure within the Democratic Party that is on a skyrocketing trajectory of popularity.
