Fox News obtained a May 2019 intelligence document from the state of Bavaria detailing Iran‘s nefarious weapons activities in the southern German state during the previous year.
Iran is a „risk country“ that is „making efforts to expand its conventional arsenal of weapons with weapons of mass destruction,“ wrote the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution in its intelligence report.
The Bavarian agency is the rough equivalent of the FBI without arrest powers.
Ms Merkel’s other national governing partner, the over 150-year-old Social Democrats (SPD), halved their ballot box support to 9.6 percent, ceding the position of Bavaria’s second biggest political force to the Greens.
The election result, which also saw the Ms. Merkel’s other coalition partner, the Social Democrats, collapse and fall behind the far right, is certain to reverberate in Berlin, where some see it as a harbinger of further losses for Ms. Merkel’s conservatives, already at a postwar low. In two weeks, her party is expected to lose ground — and possibly the whole election — in another regional election, in the state of Hesse.
Mrs Merkel‘s national coalition partners the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) trailed in fifth with 10%, their vote halved.
There is speculation that it could pull out of the government in an attempt to survive as a party.
