The committee is set to vote on its leader on June 27 and its list on July 11. The two votes will be held within the party committee, which has about 1,000 members.
The faction made the decision after 60 percent of the party voted against motions to hold open primaries or to freeze the current list.
That decision was seen as a failure for Zandberg, and for the current list of candidates, whose posts are now in jeopardy.
Current Meretz chair MK Tamar Zandberg faces at least one challenger in former party MK Nitzan Horowitz who announced he was running for the party chairmanship last week.
The Meretz convention also voted against a proposal to institute two party chairmen, an idea designed to allow a Jewish and an Arab leader of the party.

To build a peaceful world without war is the goal of the WPK and it is the consistent stand of our Party and government to struggle for the regional and global peace and security.
The April plenary meeting more evidently clarified the stand and will of the DPRK to open up a new phase for peace in the Korean peninsula and, furthermore, in Northeast Asia. This also conforms with not only the interests of the Korean nation and the regional people but also the common expectation of the international community.
It is the voice of the world public opinion that as the DPRK took an epoch-making measure, this should naturally be responded with sincerity for the development of the situation, not missing the opportunity.
The measures could mark Kim‘s strategic course correction after incremental global sanctions have crippled his country‘s economy, eroded public support and loyalty from the elites, and fueled diplomatic friction with China, its key economic patron.

Then, at the meeting Kim Jong Un made a report on the recent development of the situation on the Korean peninsula.
In his report the Supreme Leader referred to the north-south summit meeting and talks to be held at the „House of Peace“ in the south side portion of Panmunjom on April 27. He made a profound analysis and appraisal of the orientation of the development of the north-south relations at present and the prospect of the DPRK-U.S. dialogue and clarified the strategic and tactical issues to be maintained by the WPK including the future policy of international relations and the orientation corresponding to them.
Then, he pointed out in detail the recent work of the members of the Political Bureau of the C.C., WPK and stressed the need for them to give fuller play to their responsibility and role as the commanding members of revolution.
