Oil executives are set to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday to discuss investments in Venezuela, a White House official confirmed to ABC News.
Trump previously said he spoke to U.S. oil companies prior to the raid on Venezuela, even as he said he opted to forego disclosure to members of Congress ahead of time due to concerns about possible leaks. The attack resulted in the removal of Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro.
President Trump and his advisers are planning a sweeping initiative to dominate the Venezuelan oil industry for years to come, and the president has told aides he believes his efforts could help lower oil prices to his favored level of $50 a barrel, according to people familiar with the matter.
“Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland,” Mr. Miller told Jake Tapper, the CNN host, after being asked repeatedly whether he would rule out using military force.
The remarks were part of a vocal push by Mr. Miller, long a powerful behind-the-scenes player in Trump administration policy, to justify American imperialism and a vision for a new world order in which the United States could freely overthrow national governments and take foreign territory and resources so long as it was in the national interest.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a statement on Sunday that it makes „absolutely no sense to talk about the need for the United States to take over Greenland.“
„The U.S. has no right to annex any of the three nations in the Danish kingdom,“ she said, adding: „I would therefore strongly urge the U.S. stop the threats against a historically close ally and against another country and another people, who have very clearly said that they are not for sale.“
Denmark and Greenland each made their displeasure known on Sunday after the wife of President Donald Trump’s most influential aide posted a social media picture of Greenland painted in the colours of the US flag.
Katie Miller – wife of Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller – posted the contentiously altered image of the Danish autonomous territory late Saturday, after the US military operation against Venezuela.
Her post had a single word above it: “SOON.”
Experts SAN spoke with agreed it‘s not exactly clear what the words will mean when it comes to actual policy and implementation.
„My first reaction is that this is kind of like a Truth Social post,“ Sexton said. „It‘s a lot of bluster and bombast. It‘s an administration that really likes to invoke national symbols.“
Sexton acknowledged that this could be the signal of something real to come. The U.S. continues its military buildup in the Caribbean following the bombing of alleged drug boats and threats from Trump of military action in Venezuela.

The National Security Strategy, released overnight, described Trump‘s vision as one of „flexible realism“ and argued that the U.S. should revive the 19th century Monroe Doctrine, which declared the Western Hemisphere to be Washington‘s zone of influence. It also warned that Europe faces „civilizational erasure“ and must change course.
When CNN asked whether the president had received the bill or whether any timing had been set, officials did not respond.
“I have nothing to add today,” Miller told reporters when pressed for an update on the legislation.

The positive tests reflect the dangers of the virus spreading inside the White House complex, and it further called into question what measures are being taken to try and limit the exposure of the top two elected officials in American government.
Miller is one of Pence‘s closest aides and is married to Stephen Miller, one of Trump‘s senior advisers.
“I work with Stephen. I know Stephen. He loves this country and hates bigotry in all forms – and it deeply concerns me as to why so many on the left consistently attack Jewish members of this Administration,” deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement.
