The Floyd family says they believe what happened on May 25 was in part personal. Their lawyer has called for Chauvin to be charged with first-degree murder, „because we believe he knew who George Floyd was.“

„Is there any doubt in your mind that Derek Chauvin knew George Floyd?“ CBS News asked Pinney.

„No. He knew him,“ the coworker said.

Minnesotas Gouverneur Tim Walz sicherte am Freitag bei einer emotionalen Pressekonferenz zu, dass die Justiz das Vorgehen der Beteiligten schnell untersuchen werde.

Der Gouverneur teilte das Entsetzen über den Vorfall. „Das Kapitel, das diese Woche geschrieben wurde, ist eines unserer dunkelsten Kapitel“, sagte er.

The former Minneapolis police officer seen in a video with his knee on George Floyd‘s neck had 18 prior complaints filed against him with the Minneapolis Police Department‘s Internal Affairs, according to the police department.
It‘s unclear what the internal affairs complaints against the officer, Derek Chauvin, were for. MPD did not provide additional details.
