A Quick, Simple Guide to Tor and the Internet of Things (So Far)

The great danger with the „Internet of Things“ (or IoT) is the opportunity for surveillance–for an individual hacker or a state actor to accumulate, store, and exploit very private information against individuals or companies.

These attacks are far from hypothetical: We‘ve read about the ability for an attacker to see and speak to a baby through a babycam or hack and control a car. Attackers stole 40 million credit card numbers after they hacked into a national retailer‘s HVAC system and used it to reach their computer system and their customers.

Tor has developed a way to build a buffer of privacy between the baby and the Internet–so that the baby (or the HVAC system) is never exposed to the open Internet at all. Instead of a hackable, single point of failure, attackers must contend with the global network of thousands of Tor nodes.

Democratic Convention Day 3 Takeaways: America First

In seeking to capture his ideals, Mr. Trump has embraced the slogan “America First.” An echo of Charles Lindbergh and Pat Buchanan, the phrase evokes an old-fashioned American nationalism — tinged with nativism, a suspicion of outsiders and a retreat from foreign entanglements. The third night of Mrs. Clinton’s Democratic National Convention, heavy on national security themes, could have been titled “America First in the World.” Democrats celebrated the country’s diversity, with Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, the vice-presidential nominee, ladling on the Spanish. Prominent Democratic hawks, including Leon Panetta, a former C.I.A. director and secretary of defense, made the case for internationalism and multilateral engagement, harking back to the Cold War tradition.

Trump leading Hillary by largest margin yet in latest poll

(27.7.2016) A new poll out Wednesday showed Donald Trump leading Hillary Clinton 47 to 40.4 percent — his largest margin yet in the presidential race.

The results of the USC/Los Angeles Times poll likely reflect the so-called “bounce” candidates get immediately after their party’s convention.

‘I am your voice!’: Trump vows to put ‚America first’ in RNC nomination acceptance speech

(22.7.2016) “Iran is on the path to nuclear weapons,” Trump went on, “Syria is engulfed in a civil war and a refugee crisis that now threatens the West. After fifteen years of wars in the Middle East, after trillions of dollars spent and thousands of lives lost, the situation is worse than it has ever been before. This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction and weakness.”

Trump followed up by pivoting to his own plan to “put America first.”

“Americanism, not globalism, will be our credo. As long as we are led by politicians who will not put America First, then we can be assured that other nations will not treat America with respect. This will all change in 2017.”

French ID Second Church Attacker, Warning 4 Days Earlier

An official in the prosecutor‘s office said it was „very probable“ that the man, identified as Abdel-Malik Nabil Petit Jean, was the same man pictured in a photo distributed to police services four days before the attack and obtained by The Associated Press. The information accompanying the photo of an unidentified man said the person pictured „could be ready to participate in an attack on national territory.“

UCLAT, an agency that coordinates the anti-terrorist fight, said it obtained the photo from a trusted source.

French extremist carried out church attack while under house arrest

(27.7.2016) „Several elements lead us to believe he is the second attacker,“ said a source close to the investigation. Abdel Malik P., who is from the Savoie region in the French Alps, has never been convicted of a crime in France so his DNA and fingerprints are not available to speed up the identification process. However, the sources said that France’s antiterrorism police unit UCLAT sent out a note four days before the attack — saying it had received „reliable“ information about a person „about to carry out an attack on national territory“.

Clinton Friend Admits What Everyone Knows Is True: Clinton Still Supports TPP & Will Back It

If you‘ve followed the whole TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership) thing at all, and/or the Presidential election this year, you probably already know that Hillary Clinton famously flip-flopped on TPP. She was for it, before she was against it (and tried to rewrite history to hide her support of it). Of course, basically everyone recognized that her newfound concerns about TPP were made up, as a response to (at the time) surging support for Bernie Sanders, who was vocally against the agreement. But, of course, as tons of people have been saying all along, everyone expects that after the election she‘ll magically flip flop back to supporting TPP.

But, of course, because we‘re doing this big elaborate stage play called an election, no one‘s supposed to admit that‘s what‘s happening. Someone apparently forgot to tell that to Terry McAuliffe, current Virginia governor and long term best buddies with the Clintons. On Tuesday, he said what everyone already knows: Clinton will absolutely support the TPP after the election:
