UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention

On Friday 5 February 2016, the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) will publicly announce its decision in the case of Assange v UK & Sweden. If it finds that the detention is unlawful, the WGAD will order that he be released immediately and compensated.

BT internet down: Broadband connection not working for some UK users

BT‘s national internet network has been hit by major outages, a number of users have reported.

According to DownDetector, which monitors internet service disruptions, almost 20,000 reports had been made about BT since around 2:30PM on Tuesday afternoon.

A number of customers took to social media to vent their frustrations with the outage, with some businesses reporting that they were unable to process orders, take payments or communicate with customers while their internet systems were down.

Von diesem Teil-Erfolg beflügelt geht es weiter: der Hyperlink als zentraler Baustein des Internets soll unter das Kuratel staatlicher Regulierung genommen werden. Damit würde der Freiheitsraum des Internets, fünfundzwanzig Jahre nach seiner Entstehung, geschlossen.

The misuse of DMCA notices to remove unwanted information from the web has been well-documented here. The „right to be forgotten“ has sort of codified this behavior, but only applies to citizens of certain countries.

James Kutsukos would like something removed — a search warrant application hosted by the ACLU, which details a US Postal Service investigation which culminated in his being convicted for marijuana distribution. It‘s easy to see why Kutsukos would want this removed:

Two killed, several injured as security forces open fire on protesting PIA workers

Security personnel on Tuesday clashed with marchers protesting against government plans to privatise the ailing national airline, in a skirmish that a hospital official said killed at least two protesters and injured eight.

Protesters said paramilitary forces fired after a confrontation as security forces tried to block the strikers nearing the airport in the southern economic hub of Karachi.
