Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took a veiled swipe at the Obama administration Sunday, saying it’s “astonishing” that nuclear negotiations are continuing with Iran even after revelations last week that Iran continues to withhold information regarding the possible military purposes of its nuclear program, The Blaze reported.
“It is astonishing that even after the recent [International Atomic Energy Agency] report determined that Iran is continuing to hide the military components of its nuclear program, the nuclear talks are with it are proceeding,” Netanyahu said at his weekly cabinet meeting. “Not only are they continuing, there is an increased effort to reach a nuclear agreement in the coming days and weeks.”

Google is boldly opposing an attempt by the US Justice Department to expand federal powers to search and seize digital data, warning that the changes would open the door to US “government hacking of any facility” in the world.
In a strongly worded submission to the Washington committee that is considering the proposed changes, Google says that increasing the FBI’s powers set out in search warrants would raise “monumental and highly complex constitutional, legal and geopolitical concerns that should be left to Congress to decide”.
John Pilger: There are straightforward principles and dynamics at work here. Washington wants to get rid of the Venezuelan government because it is independent of US designs for the region and because Venezuela has the greatest proven oil reserves in the world and uses its oil revenue to improve the quality of ordinary lives. Venezuela remains a source of inspiration for social reform in a continent ravaged by an historically rapacious US.

But the Obama administration recently announced it intends to include areas of the Chukchi and Beaufort seas in future lease sales. The Department of Interior estimates reserves of 21.5 billion barrels of oil and 93.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas under the two seas.
Then-State Treasurer Bill Lockyer called the bonds “debt for the next generation.” But some economists argue that it is a transfer of wealth, not between generations, but between classes – from the poor to the rich. Capital investments were once funded with property taxes, particularly those paid by wealthy homeowners and corporations. But California’s property tax receipts were slashed by Proposition 13 and the housing crisis, forcing school costs to be borne by middle-class households and the students themselves.
The same kind of funding shift has occurred in college education nationally. Tuition at public universities and colleges was at one time free. But in successive economic downturns, states have made up for shortfalls in educational budgets by raising tuition. By 2012, tuition was covering 44% of the operating expenses of public higher education. According to a March 2014 report by Demos, 7 out of 10 college seniors now borrow, and their average debt on graduation is over $29,000. The result nationally is a student debt that has grown to $1.5 trillion.

The reaction of Damascus to Turkey’s unannounced ground operation in Syria has been harsh, as the Syrian government said it holds Turkey responsible for “repercussions of this aggression.”
Syrian national TV has accused Ankara of “flagrant aggression,“ saying the Turkish government had informed the Syrian consulate in Istanbul about the ground operation, but hadn’t waited for Syria‘s agreement, Reuters reported.
The trip has also sparked surprisingly widespread anger across the United States political scene, with growing calling for boycotts of Netanyahu‘s speech at anger at the perceived „insult.“

Former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters has engaged in a war of words with Dark Side of the Moon engineer Alan Parsons, who leads the Alan Parsons Project, over the latter‘s decision to play a concert in Tel Aviv, Israel.
We missed this, but it’s important. Ten days ago the Alan Parsons Project played Israel despite an appeal from Roger Waters, the legendary activist and Pink Floyd bassist, to stand up for Palestinian human rights by boycotting the country as artists had boycotted South Africa under apartheid.
