Two decades ago Cuba was the first country to convert from industrial agriculture to organic agriculture. Today it is converting a major part of its economy to cooperatives.

The roots of the rising violence in Gaza and Israel
The last several days have been devastating. The weeks leading up to it have been horrifying. Since the beginning of the Israel’s Operation Protective Edge on July 8, 2014 upwards of 80 Palestinians have been killed and approximately 500 wounded by Israeli missiles and 2 Israelis have been wounded from rockets fired from Gaza. We have watched with sadness and anger as the deaths of children have mounted, racist mobs have rampaged, the fears of people throughout both Israel and Palestine have reached unbearable levels, and the collective punishment of the Palestinian people has intensified.

Up to 45 percent of the earthquakes, or roughly 15 quakes of at least magnitude 3.0 per week, are likely attributable to wastewater disposal, the researchers wrote.

On Israel, Ukraine and Truth
The other night, I saw George Orwells’s 1984 performed on the London stage. Although crying out for a contemporary interpretation, Orwell’s warning about the future was presented as a period piece: remote, unthreatening, almost reassuring. It was as if Edward Snowden had revealed nothing, Big Brother was not now a digital eavesdropper and Orwell himself had never said, “To be corrupted by totalitarianism, one does not have to live in a totalitarian country.”
VANCOUVER EMERGENCY PROTEST FOR GAZA, PALESTINE Saturday, July 12
Protests are being organized in cities around the world to respond to the ongoing assault on Palestine and the Palestinian people, including the bombing of Gaza and the killing of over 100 Palestinians by occupation forces; the murders of Palestinians (including 16-year-old Muhammad Abu Khdeir, murdered brutally by Israeli settlers) and ongoing settler and military brutality; the mass arrests of over 900; and the raids, attacks, tear-gassing, invasions and closure that Palestinians are being subjected to.
How Politics and Lies Triggered an Unintended War in Gaza
In the flood of angry words that poured out of Israel and Gaza during a week of spiraling violence, few statements were more blunt, or more telling, than this throwaway line by the chief spokesman of the Israeli military, Brigadier General Moti Almoz, speaking July 8 on Army Radio’s morning show: “We have been instructed by the political echelon to hit Hamas hard.”
That’s unusual language for a military mouthpiece. Typically they spout lines like “We will take all necessary actions” or “The state of Israel will defend its citizens.” You don’t expect to hear: “This is the politicians’ idea. They’re making us do it.”

Suspected German spy was in contact with friend at State Dept – US officials
According to the German newspaper Die Welt, a soldier of the Bundeswehr is suspected of committing espionage. The individual was said to have made “intensive contacts” with alleged US intelligence officials and was under the surveillance of the Military Intelligence (MAD) some time ago.
Moskau will der Welt wieder diesen Umgang aufzwingen.

„No international pressure will prevent us from acting with all power,“ he told reporters in Tel Aviv on Friday, a day after a phone call with U.S. President Barack Obama about the worst flare-up in Israeli-Palestinian violence in almost two years.
If TPP Is So Important, Why Are Those It‘s Supposed To ‚Help‘ Fighting Against It?
The USTR‘s position on trade agreements is incredibly antiquated. It acts as if it‘s an extension of „American business“ and seems to believe that the only ones fighting against its various trade agreements, like the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Pact (TTIP) are these meddling „public interest“ groups, which don‘t understand the importance of big business. It‘s why the USTR recently created a special „public interest“ committee to pretend that it was listening to criticism while shunting them off to their own little corner to be ignored.
Spionage-Affäre: Maas sieht Freihandelsabkommen mit USA gefährdet
