(8.April 2013) Eines der peinlichsten Anzeichen für den Zustand (nicht nur) des Journalismus in Deutschland war das bizarre, schweigende Abkopieren der am 3. November 2012 über dessen Quartalspostamt “Spiegel” veröffentlichten Behauptungen des Bundesnachrichtendienstes B.N.D. über die mittlerweile zur Boulevard-Folklore geronnenen “Inhaber russischer Schwarzgeldkonten” in der Republik Zypern. Dem berühmten gebildeten, peniblen und für seine Demokratiefähigkeit und intellektuellen Kapazitäten in ganz Europa bekannten deutschen Zeitungsleser wurden “Reiche Russen” feilgeboten (die sich durch “Geldwäsche” aber irgendwie auch in Staatsbürger Zyperns verwandelt hätten), Appetit auf 26 Milliarden Euro “russischer Staatsbürger” gemacht die auf Konten in Zypern lägen und von “80 Oligarchen” erzählt, die sich “Niederlassungsfreiheit in der gesamten EU verschafft” hätten.
Durch die Bank weg alle, ausnahmslos alle in der etablierten Presse und der ihr hinterher laufenden Kaste der Partei-Kader schwatzten und tazten diese B.N.D.-Geschichte nach.

(8.April 2013) Irgendwann vor einiger Zeit kommt in das Washingtoner Büro des “International Consortium of Investigative Journalists” (von dem ich im Leben noch nie etwas gehört habe) ein australischer Journalist namens Gerard Ryle gelatscht und sagt, er habe 260 Gigabytes an Daten über “Steueroasen” und “Offshore-Leaks” für Superreiche und interne Geschäftsunterlagen von Konzernen in über 170 Staaten.
Und zwar habe er diese Daten mit der Post bekommen.

Dianne Feinstein: Emotions Didn‘t Motivate The CIA Torture Report; Michael Hayden‘s Coverup Did
Senator Dianne Feinstein has finally responded to former CIA and NSA boss Michael Hayden‘s misogynistic and ridiculous claims that the Senate Intelligence Committee‘s 6,300 page, $40 million research report into the CIA torture program (run, in part, while Hayden was boss) was motivated by her „emotions“ rather than by an objective position. Hayden has also called out the staffers working on the report as sissies (though he‘ll claim he was just saying the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence‘s acronym — SSCI). She brushes off the whole „emotional“ claim by noting quickly that‘s Hayden being „stereotypical“ and „incorrect“ and saying such a thing is „an old male fallback position.“
However, as Marcy Wheeler points out, rather than spending her time addressing silly ad hominem attacks, Feinstein scores a lot more points in basically pointing out that the real motivation for the report was Hayden‘s own lies to Congress:
More support for Svensmark’s cosmic ray modulation of Earth’s climate hypothesis
There is a new paper in Environmental Research Letters that give additional support to Henrik Svensmark’s cosmic ray hypothesis of climate change on Earth. The idea is basically this: the suns changing magnetic field has an influence on galactic cosmic rays, with a stronger magnetic field deflecting more cosmic rays and a weaker one allowing more into the solar system. The cosmic rays affect cloud formation on Earth by creating condensation nuclei. Here is a simplified block flowchart diagram of the process:

Man who introduced serious ‚Heartbleed‘ security flaw denies he inserted it deliberately
Mr Seggelmann, of Münster in Germany, said the bug which introduced the flaw was „unfortunately“ missed by him and a reviewer when it was introduced into the open source OpenSSL encryption protocol over two years ago.
„I was working on improving OpenSSL and submitted numerous bug fixes and added new features,“ he said.
„In one of the new features, unfortunately, I missed validating a variable containing a length.“

Regierungsamtliche Vokative
Scharfe Kritik an den Äußerungen der Bundesregierung zur Krim-Krise übt der Jurist Reinhard Merkel, Professor für Strafrecht und Rechtsphilosophie an der Hamburger Universität. Wie Merkel in einem aktuellen Zeitungsbeitrag schreibt, müsse zunächst festgehalten werden, dass der Übergang der Krim in die Russische Föderation keine „Annexion“ und kein „Landraub“ gewesen sei. Vielmehr habe es sich um „eine Sezession“ gehandelt, „bestätigt von einem Referendum“; „ihm folgte der Antrag auf Beitritt zur Russischen Föderation, den Moskau annahm“. Nichts davon sei völkerrechtswidrig; lediglich die Sezession sei nach ukrainischem Recht verboten gewesen. Dies alles festzuhalten sei keinesfalls Wortklauberei, sondern von hoher Bedeutung: Schließlich sei eine Annexion, eine „räuberische Landnahme mittels Gewalt“, nichts Geringeres als ein „Titel zum Krieg“. Lediglich zwei Aspekte des Geschehens auf der Krim seien völkerrechtswidrig gewesen. Das gelte zum einen für die Präsenz russischer Soldaten jenseits ihrer Stationierungsorte. Diese habe allerdings auf die Gültigkeit des Referendums keine Auswirkungen gehabt: Das Militär habe nicht „die Abstimmungslokale überwacht“, sondern bloß „die Möglichkeit des Stattfindens“ von Referendum und Abspaltung gewährt, indem sie „ein militärisches Eingreifen des Zentralstaats zur Unterbindung der Sezession“ verhinderte.

In Cyprus, even AKEL is slowly changing its position after the disastrous experience of 2013. In Germany, there are many voices within Die Linke that criticize the single currency. In Britain, there are still many voices on the Left that insist on a anti-EU position.
