Federal Agencies in Turf War Over Access to NSA Data

„Every agency wants to think that their mission has to be the highest priority,“ said a former White House intelligence official involved with the turf issues.

The Drug Enforcement Administration, Secret Service, Pentagon and Homeland Security Department have requested access to the tools in order to aid investigations of drug trafficking, cyberattacks, money laundering, counterfeiting and copyright infringement.

Other Agencies Clamor for Data N.S.A. Compiles

Mr. Edgar said officials in the national intelligence director’s office occasionally allow other agencies a role in identifying surveillance targets and seeing the results when it is relevant to their own inquiries. But more often, he acknowledged, the office has come down on the side of keeping the process held to an “exclusive club” at the N.S.A., the F.B.I. and the Justice Department, with help from the Central Intelligence Agency on foreign issues.

Anti-Coup Alliance Statement on US Delegation Meet Saturday, August 3

The Alliance delegation reaffirmed that:

– We reject US statements made recently by Secretary Kerry in support of the military coup in clear violation of constitutional legitimacy acknowledged by democratic states.

– We strongly reject foreign interference in Egypt‘s internal affairs, and at the same time, we welcome the international community’s announced respect for the principles of democracy and human rights and its renunciation of military coups and massacres.

– We support democratic legitimacy, including reinstatement of the elected President, the Constitution and the Shura Council (the Upper House). This conforms to President Morsi’s initiative as announced before the military coup that crushed democracy by suspending the Constitution and abducted the President.

– We condemn the situation witnessed by Egyptians, which is a flagrant violation of human rights, during the past few weeks, and which revealed the bloody face of the military coup.

– Alliance-led protest activities of the Egyptian people are entirely peaceful, and are based on the natural right to hold demonstrations and sit-ins, and freedom of assembly and association.

We condemn any calls to or acts of violence, including all criminal attacks in the Sinai.

The M5S in Kazakhstan: Shalabayeva case is not concluded

After the motion of no confidence in the “Minister for Internal Affairs who didn’t know what was happening” Alfano, (and it’s worth repeating that the PD didn’t vote on this), we’ve noticed a worrying fall in the level of attention given to this case. In Parliament, nobody has been bothering about this any more, not even the so-called left wing party that always says it’s careful to watch out for the violation of rights. This is why we decided to go and get a clear picture and see how this woman and her daughter are faring as well as to draw attention to this case that has brought discredit to Italy

NSA X-Keyscore Member of Cyberespionage Family

Further revelations of Snowden‘s documents could describe how this is done with personnel, networks and data-server architecture, not only by PRISM and X-Keyscore. Staff of these spy systems may be seen as HUMINT androids safely bunkered for intimately wielding their remote-spying apparatus in concert with remote-commanding officials and killing-machine operators with whom they work to surveil, analyze, target and execute.

Das 500-Millionen-Daten-Rätsel

All dies wäre natürlich ebenfalls äußerst denkwürdig.

Ex-US general: We pay a price for backing Israel

Mattis then described a hypothetical in which 500 Jewish settlers live among 10,000 Arabs, and the implications of where Israel draws the border. He called it a choice between giving up the idea of a Jewish state or becoming an apartheid state.

Der Drohnen-Minister hat gelogen

These results challenge the notion that parrots only imitate speech and raise interesting questions regarding the role of social interaction in learning and communicative competence in an avian species … Although Cosmo is only one parrot, our results demonstrate for the first time that it is within the abilities of a nonhuman, nonprimate, nonmammal species that has been raised with a responsive human conversational partner in a home rather than a lab to use a variety of speech and nonword sounds in a deliberate, contextually relevant fashion.

Lifelong ‘frack gag’: Two Pennsylvania children banned from discussing fracking

„We know we‘re signing for silence forever, but how is this taking away our children‘s rights being minors?“ Stephanie Hallowich asked the judge.

„I mean, my daughter is turning 7 today, my son is 10.“

According to the transcripts, Judge Polonsky, who oversaw the case, was unable to clarify. The family‘s attorney, Peter Villari, questioned whether the order would be enforceable.

„I, frankly, your Honor, as an attorney, to be honest with you, I don‘t know if that‘s possible that you can give up the First Amendment rights of a child,“ stated Villari.

New Proposal Could Singlehandedly Cripple Free Speech Online

The Internet has evolved into a true marketplace for every idea – if you can think of it, you can find it on the web. That the online world has blossomed into this virtual town square teeming with diverse content is no accident. It is largely a creation of federal law – specifically, Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1998. Section 230 is directly responsible for the free, messy, uncensored, and often brilliant culture of online speech.

SITE Institute

In early September 2007, SITE announced that Osama bin Laden would release a video message on the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Bloomberg News also reported that IntelCenter, another web monitoring service, noted that al Qaeda‘s media production group as-Sahab flagged the video in an online media statement.[8] While Bloomberg reported only that the video would be released, the Associated Press stated that „the 30-minute video was obtained by the SITE Institute“ and had provided a copy to the AP. The report stated that „American officials said the U.S. government had obtained a copy even though the video had not been posted yet by al-Qaeda“.[9] AP noted that „during the video, bin Laden‘s image moves for only a total of about 3 1/2 minutes in two segments, staying frozen the rest of the time while his remarks continue.“ An anonymous U.S. intelligence official told the AP it may have been a technical glitch that occurred during production. While the video was intercepted by US intelligence agencies, its provision to SITE Institute may have been a boon to the small group, which only made it available on its website to subscribers.[10] However, Fox News released a transcript of the tape.[11]

Qaeda Messages Prompt U.S. Terror Warning

The importance of the intercepts was underscored by a speech that the Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, posted on jihadist forums on Tuesday. In his address, Mr. Zawahri called for attacks on American interests in response to its military actions in the Muslim world and American drone strikes in Pakistan and Yemen, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors statements by jihadists.
