The op-ed, written by Georgetown University professor and lawyer Arjun Sethi and titled, “Saudi Arabia Uses Terrorism as an Excuse for Human Rights Abuses,” ran on the website of Al Jazeera America, the network’s U.S. outlet. It comments on reports of 50 people recently sentenced to death for alleged terrorist activity and criticizes the U.S. government’s silence on Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.
The article ran on December 3, and is still available in the United States, but people attempting to view the link in other countries were given an error or “not found” page. (For international readers, we’ve reprinted the full text of the article here.)
CISA Is Now The Law: How Congress Quietly Passed The Second Patriot Act
Back in 2014, civil liberties and privacy advocates were up in arms when the government tried to quietly push through the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act, or CISA, a law which would allow federal agencies – including the NSA – to share cybersecurity, and really any information with private corporations „notwithstanding any other provision of law.“ The most vocal complaint involved CISA’s information-sharing channel, which was ostensibly created for responding quickly to hacks and breaches, and which provided a loophole in privacy laws that enabled intelligence and law enforcement surveillance without a warrant.
Security Council Unanimously Adopts Resolution 2254 (2015), Endorsing Road Map for Peace Process in Syria, Setting Timetable for Talks
“The Syrian people will decide the future of Syria,” the text stated. By other terms, the Council requested that the Secretary-General — through his good offices and the efforts of his Special Envoy — convene representatives of the Syrian Government and opposition to engage in formal negotiations on a political transition process “on an urgent basis”, with a target of early January for the initiation of talks. It expressed support for a Syrian-led political process facilitated by the United Nations which would establish “credible, inclusive and non-sectarian governance” within six months and set a schedule and process for the drafting of a new constitution.
By further terms, the Council expressed support for free and fair elections, pursuant to the new constitution, to be held within 18 months and administered under United Nations supervision, “to the highest international standards” of transparency and accountability, with all Syrians — including members of the diaspora — eligible to participate.

EXCLUSIVE: Qatar‘s Spying Bird Killed by Local Residents in Eastern Afghanistan
But Afghan forces see the Qataris‘ move as an attempt to spy on the Afghan government‘s military and non-military centers due to the strategic situation of Herat province.
In late November, a Qatari plane had an unauthorized landing at Herat airport without any prior coordination with local officials in the province.
Governor of Herat Mohammad Asef Rahimi said that the plane carrying 10 costly armored vehicles and foodstuff illegally landed at Herat airport.
Libya Wants to Start Anti-Terrorism Cooperation with Russia
„We stand ready to support the implementation of the political agreement and underline our firm commitment to providing the Government of National Accord with full political backing and technical, economic, security and counter-terrorism assistance, as requested,“ the statement said.
‘Libya at core of US, UK strategy to destabilize region’
DG: What were special forces doing in 2012 when [US] Ambassador Christopher Stevens was lynched – they were organizing a special secret CIA facility to export terrorism across the region and specifically to Syria. This all came out in the open in the US Senate hearings, very clear that’s exactly what was going on – a ratline of weapons and fighters to export terrorism from Libya, which has become a hub of terrorism and has been the core of destabilization strategy employed by the US and Britain in the region…That’s what they were doing in 2011, that’s what they were doing in 2012. I suspect that’s what they are doing today as well.
Saudis’ Anti-Terror Window-dressing
Which brings us back to the downing of the Su-24. Venturing one step further, Russian expert Alexei Leonkov maintains that not only did NATO follow the whole operation with an AWACS, but another AWACS from Saudi Arabia actually guided the Turkish F-16s.
Pentagon: US strike that killed Iraqi soldiers could be ‚mistake‘ by both sides
The incident fuels suspicions in Iraq that the US-led coalition may be helping IS rather than fighting against it, a notion that is widespread in the country. Shiite militias, which are fighting against IS forces in Iraq, had suffered from American interventions that helped the terrorists in the past, militia commander Hakim al-Zamili told RT. Al-Zamili also heads the Iraqi parliament’s defense and security committee.
“We don‘t believe it was a technical mistake. We constantly see that the United States are trying to provide air cover to Islamic State. They are preventing us from making an offensive,” he said.

New U.S. space mining law may violate international treaty
(27.11.2015) The Space Act grants private companies protected ownership of materials extracted from celestial bodies — but not the bodies themselves.
The company has been lobbying Congress to offer some legal clarity, as their investors have voiced concerns over potential conflict between the company‘s mission and the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, which declares, among other things, „states shall avoid harmful contamination of space and celestial bodies.“

Weapon used in November 13 Paris attacks came from CIA-linked arms dealer
The weapon, an M92 semiautomatic pistol, was produced at the Zastava arms factory in Kragujevac, Serbia. Last week, factory manager Milojko Brzakovic told AP he had checked its records on seven weapons that it manufactured that were used in the Paris attacks. It delivered several of the weapons inside Yugoslavia before that country dissolved amid capitalist restoration and civil war in the 1990s, but it delivered the pistol in May 2013 to Century Arms, based in Delray Beach, Florida.
