The Australian defence chief, Mark Binskin, offered an update on operations in Iraq and Syria during Senate estimates on Wednesday.
He said coalition partners had been aware of possible chemical weapons usage by Isis, also known as Daesh.
Canada will remain “a strong member of the coalition“ against the IS by maintaining humanitarian aid and training, Trudeau said, but will pull out of the bombing mission.
“About an hour ago I spoke with President Obama,” Trudeau told reporters. “He understands the commitment I’ve made around ending the combat mission.“
