Congresswoman Barbara Lee Calls for an End to the Longest War in US History
Just last week, our nation marked the 14th anniversary of the US invasion in Afghanistan. Today, we learned that our troops will remain in the country through 2017, further extending the longest war in American history.
In Afghanistan, our brave servicemen and women have gone above and beyond the call of duty. It’s past time to end this war.
2,350 brave American service members have made the ultimate sacrifice and thousands more bear visible and invisible scars. This war’s price tag totals more than $716 billion and has prevented us from acting on our domestic priorities.
More than a decade later, we remain mired in a war with no end. Rather than extending this costly war, it’s time to listen to the American people and bring our troops home.
Israel says will not accept international presence on Temple Mount
„Let me be crystal clear — Israel will not agree to any international presence on the Temple Mount. Such a presence would be a change in the status quo,“ said Israeli Deputy Ambassador David Roet.
State Department forced to retract statement suggesting Israel incites violence
Responding to the question “Is it the Administration’s position that the status quo at the Temple Mount has been broken?” State Department spokesperson Admiral John Kirby responded:
MR KIRBY: Well, certainly, the status quo has not been observed, which has led to a lot of the violence.
Shortly thereafter Kirby tweeted a “clarification”:
Clarification from today’s briefing: I did not intend to suggest that status quo at Temple Mount/Haram Al-Sharif has been broken.
— John Kirby (@statedeptspox) October 15, 2015
While no one implied Israel forced this retraction, Haaretz’s lede read:
U.S. Department of State Spokesman John Kirby has been forced to retract a comment he made on Wednesday that Israel had violated the status quo on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
‚Israel has the right to defend itself,‘ German foreign minister says
„Israel has the right to defend itself,“ the German foreign minister told local media. „The violent criminals need to be put on trial.“
Jerusalem outraged at State Dept. ‚concern‘ about disproportionate use of Israeli force
“The comments by the US State Department spokesman are so crazy, deceitful and baseless, that I expect President [Barack] Obama and US Secretary of State [John] Kerry to distance themselves from them, and to clarify the US position Gilad Erdan said.
@Rubelius That‘s very sad. Was completely avoidable, too. He shouldn‘t have been hanging out with folks throwing FIRE BOMBS at soldiers!

‚An Israeli Sniper Shot Me‘
A 13-year-old boy from a refugee camp next to Bethlehem was killed by an IDF soldier for no apparent reason. The army‘s response: ‚It was a mistake.‘
Obaidullah… innocent child killed by Israeli sniper (report)
The childhood and innocence of 13-year-old Abdulrahman Shadi Obaidullah did not spare him the bullets of an Israeli sniper, who pointed his gun and fired a bullet into the child‘s heart. This practice falls in contrary to the moral lesson provided by the Palestinian resistance during the Nablus operation last Thursday.
Beit Jala hospital director Said Sarahna confirmed that the child arrived at the hospital suffering from a critical injury; as a result of the one bullet in the heart shot by an Israeli sniper.

Why are the UN investigating the UK for potential breaches of disabled peoples human rights?
The UNCRPD was hard fought for over decades, driven largely by European and Latin American disabled people organisations. The Convention eventually came into being in 2008, and now ratified by over 150 countries (known as State Parties). The purpose of the Convention is defined in Article 1 as:
‘To promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity’.

UN probes UK‘s the disabled rights violation
The UN is set to send a delegation to the UK within weeks as part of an inquiry into “grave and systematic violations” of the rights of disabled people allegedly taken place under London’s austerity measures.
The visit of the UN Committee Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) is to take place at the request of a campaign group called “Disabled People Against Cuts” using a legal mechanism known as the Optional Protocol. The request was made at the start of 2012. Britain is the first country to face a high-level inquiry by the UN committee.
