To Nobody‘s Surprise, Australian âTerrorismâ Law May Be Used for Copyright Enforcement
The current party line, from flip-flopping Attorney-General George Brandis (whom some may remember from this train-wreck interview in which he attempted to define âmetadataâ) is that the new laws âcan‘t be and they won‘t beâ used to prosecute file sharers, because copyright infringement is only a civil offense.
Greenpeace accuses 20 European ‚monster boats‘ of overfishing
The environmental group Greenpeace launched a campaign on Tuesday against 20 European „monster boats“ it says use a range of tricks to dangerously overfish the world‘s oceans.
Among the targeted boats are five Spanish-flagged vessels, including two that belong to the Spanish fishing giant Albacora.
Four other vessels in the cross-hairs are owned by the Netherlands firm Parlevliet en Van der Plas, one of which flies a Dutch flag, two of which fly a German flag and the last a Lithuanian flag.

Egyptian-Israeli siege tightens noose around Gazaâs neck
Egypt and Israel continue to hold the besieged Gaza Strip at knife point. This narrow piece of land, already plagued with political and social strife, is destined to remain âhostageâ in the hands of both, as an âenemyâ and a âbrotherâ take turns at slaughtering its people. They have let the Strip breathe a bit, and then, whenever they choose, they quickly stopped the air from reaching its âlungsâ by blocking the only three crossings linking Gaza to the outside world.

The Day Israel Attacked America
This aired late Friday evening, 31 October 2014 on the Al Jazeera America channel.
Digital Citizen 2.0
In September, it was reported that the NSA assisted Israelâs military intelligence in collecting information on Palestinians to be used for blackmail and political persecution. The NSA has always worked closely with Unit 8200, Israelâs intelligence unit specializing in signals intelligence (SIGINT).
In response to the news, 43 veterans of Unit 8200 have decided to step down. Agents interviewed by the Guardian disclosed disturbing information about targeting âinnocent people unconnected to any military activity.â Agents were explicitly asked to retain any embarrassing and extremely personal information that could be used to blackmail subjects in the future.

âLet the police mow the lawn‘: Israeli right-wing demands stronger crackdown as Netanyahu increases attacks on East Jerusalem
As tensions rise in Jerusalem right-wing Israelis are demanding that police increase the already brutal level of state violence inflicted exclusively against Palestinians. Numerous Israelis I have spoken to demanded police implement shoot-to-kill tactics in East Jerusalem on any Palestinian who throws a rock â which would effectively expand the tactics used against Palestinians living on the other side of Israelâs separation wall in the occupied West Bank.
