Taking Britain’s Communications and Intelligence Agency (GCHQ) to Court: The Legal Claim Against Surveillance

People have a fundamental right to communicate with each other free from pervasive government surveillance. The right to communicate, and the ability to choose to do so secretly, is essential to the open exchange of ideas which is a cornerstone of a free society. Devin Theriot-Orr, Riseup.net, July 2014

Monsanto’s Roundup Herbicide and Regulators “With Something to Hide”

Despite its widespread use, there is currently little monitoring of glyphosate in food, water or the wider environment. Last year, Friends of the Earth (FoE) and GM Freeze commissioned a study based on urine samples from volunteers in 18 countries across Europe [2]. It found that on average 44 percent of samples contained glyphosate. The proportion of positive samples varied between countries, with Malta, Germany, the UK and Poland having the most positive tests, and lower levels detected in Macedonia and Switzerland. All the volunteers who provided samples lived in cities, and none had handled or used glyphosate products in the run-up to the tests. The study was the first time monitoring has been carried out across Europe for the presence of the weed killer in human bodies.

Viren-Mails sollen Musik-Sauger schocken

Hollywood Studios Tried To Add File Sharing Sites To New Zealand‘s Child Porn Blacklist

We just wrote about the UK‘s filtering systems blocking access to 20% of the world‘s top 100,000 sites, even though only about 4% of those host the porn Prime Minister David Cameron seems so obsessed with blocking. Also noted in that story was the fact that many „pirate sites“ are being blocked at ISP level via secret court orders.

MPAA head Chris Dodd absolutely loves web filters, proclaiming them to be the best tool the industry can (ab)use to thwart piracy.

PPC- unionists strike is over. Now, really

Now, really. The unionists of Public Power Company decided to end their strike after an Athens court ruled the strike was “illegal” and the Greek government was about to or it did indeed issued ‘civil mobilization order’. To tell you the truth I didn’t really care much to read in detail the news concerning power cuts and unionists strikes – especially the PPC union strike
I don’t even feel like writing all details about the PPC union and the roles the unions at state run enterprises play and have played. Now, really. I have written about it in the past and believe it or not, I am too lazy to go search the
link to the post.

Grillo: door for reform dialogue open

„The door has never been closed despite continuous provocations“ Grillo wrote in his blog after a planned meeting between his party and the Democratic Party fell through amid mutual recriminations.
„M5S has a duty as the second largest political force to improve the electoral law and will try all the way,“ said Grillo, „I have appealed to MPs from other political groupings who have democracy at heart to help avoid an anti-constitutional drift linked to the reforms.“

Renzi tells Grillo ‚outline reforms‘

„I embrace the lads who have been taken in by these phonies and hypocrites.“ Luigi Di Maio, the M5S deputy president of the Chamber of Deputies, blamed what he said were conflicting statements by two Democratic Party officials, Lorenzo Guerini and Debora Serracchiani, for the botched meeting.
„From now on we will talk only with Renzi, in the Democratic Party the others are not trustworthy,“ Di Maio said.

Renzi postpones reform talks with M5S

„We spent the weekend working on a proposal. It would have been easy for us to come here, tell you our proposal, and walk away from the talks. We have no intention of doing so,“ Di Maio told reporters at a news briefing. He also said the M5S will talk to Renzi and no-one else from the majority party because „the others in the PD are not trustworthy.“

The child sex abuse ring story promises to shake the establishment

The problem for Theresa May when she stands up in the Commons this afternoon to announce an inquiry into allegations of a cover-up of a child sex abuse ring, possibly involving senior politicians, is one of credibility. Not hers, which is remarkably unscathed after four years in the most exposed job in Whitehall, but that of the whole edifice she represents, the tight little self-preserving body of civil servants and politicians and Oxford and Cambridge that was formerly known as the establishment.
