Obama Pushes Secretive TPP Trade Pact

As the federal government shutdown continues, Secretary of State John Kerry heads to Asia for secret talks on a sweeping new trade deal, the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The TPP is often referred to by critics as „NAFTA on steroids,“ and would establish a free trade zone that would stretch from Vietnam to Chile, encompassing 800 million people — about a third of world trade and nearly 40 percent of the global economy.

Sun Induces Strange ‘Breathing’ of Earth’s Atmosphere

(12.15.2008) New satellite observations have revealed a previously unknown rhythmic expansion and contraction of Earth’s atmosphere on a nine-day cycle.

This „breathing“ corresponds to changes in the sun’s magnetic fields as it completes rotations once every 27 days, NASA and University of Colorado, Boulder, scientists said Monday at the American Geophysical Union annual meeting.

Russlands Wissenschaftler wollen These der anthropogenen KlimaerwÀrmung widerlegen

Is climate sensitive to solar variability?

(MĂ€rz 2008) The causes of global warming — the increase of approximately 0.8±0.1 °C in the average global temperature near Earth’s surface since 1900—are not as apparent as some recent scientific publications and the popular media indicate. We contend that the changes in Earth’s average surface temperature are directly linked to two distinctly different aspects of the Sun’s dynamics: the short-term statistical fluctuations in the Sun’s irradiance and the longer-term solar cycles. This argument for directly linking the Sun’s dynamics to the response of Earth’s climate is based on our research and augments the interpretation of the causes of global warming presented in the United Nations 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report.

COSMIC RAYS, CLOUDS, AND CLIMATE.

(10.Mai 2000) A correlation between a global average of low cloud cover and the ïŹ‚ux of cosmic rays incident in the atmosphere has been observed during the last solar cycle. The ionising potential of Earth bound cosmic rays are modulated by the state of the heliosphere, while clouds play an important role in the Earth’s radiation budget through trapping outgoing- and reïŹ‚ecting incoming radiation. If a physical link between these two features can be established, it would provide a mechanism linking solar activity and Earth’s climate.

Solar wind weakest since beginning of space age

(24.08.2008) „With the solar wind at an all-time low, there is an excellent chance the heliosphere will diminish in size and strength,“ said Ed Smith, NASA‘s Ulysses project scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
„If that occurs, more galactic cosmic rays will make it into the inner part of our solar system,“ added Smith.

Solar Activity Set To Be Weakest Since 1906

Here is NASA‘s latest data, updated on October 1, for the current sunspot cycle – known as Solar Cycle 24 – and it shows sun spot activity continuing to decline.

„The current predicted and observed size makes this the smallest sunspot cycle since Cycle 14… in February of 1906,“ states NASA‘s website for Solar Cycle Prediction managed by the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville Alabama.

Pluto is undergoing global warming, researchers find

(09. Oktober 2002) Pluto and Neptune‘s largest moon, Triton, are presently about the same distance from the sun, and each has a predominantly nitrogen atmosphere (with a surface pressure 100,000 times less than that on Earth), so one might expect similar processes to be occurring on these two bodies.

A 1997 occultation of a star by Triton revealed that its surface had warmed since the Voyager spacecraft first explored it in 1989. On Triton, „Voyager saw dark material rising up as much as 12 km above the surface, indicating some kind of eruptive activity,“ Elliot said. „There could be more massive activity on Pluto, since the changes observed in Pluto‘s atmosphere are much more severe. The change observed on Triton was subtle. Pluto‘s changes are not subtle.“

Energetic Cosmic Rays May Start From Black Holes

They are the zestiest bits of matter in the universe. They can zing through space for millions of years at essentially the speed of light and with 100 million times the energy produced by the biggest particle accelerators on the earth, before crashing occasionally into Earth’s atmosphere and dying in a spray of microscopic fluff.

Since these ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays, as they are known, were first glimpsed in 1963, physicists and astronomers have scratched their heads wondering where they came from and what gargantuan process could produce such energies — wondering, even, if they were real.
