India signs MoU with Russia to fast-track North-South corridor

India, eyeing a bigger role in Eurasia and Afghanistan amid prevailing geopolitics, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia for fast-tracking International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC) that will enable a smoother connectivity to the region via Iran, Trend reports citing The Economic Times.

Iranischer Hafen Chabahar „U.S.-sanktionsbefreit“

Ex-C.I.A.-Chef und aktueller Aussenminister der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, Mike Pompeo, bestätigte am 6.11.2018, dass der einzige iranische Tiefwasserhafen am Golf von Oman von den U.S.-Sanktionen nicht betroffen ist. Zudem wird es dem Iran „erlaubt“, eine geplante Eisenbahnstrecke vom Hafen nach Afghanistan fertigzustellen.

Russia, India, Iran to Discuss New Transport Route That Could Replace Suez Canal

Earlier, Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu called for the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) to be put into operation „as early as possible.“ The INSTC‘s estimated operational capacity is up to 30 million metric tons of goods per year.
