In den Standbildern kann man rechts oben neben dem „Spiegel“-Logo auch das von „Amaq“ sehen. „Amaq“ sieht sich selbst als Sprachrohr des „Islamischen Staats“.

Der „Weltspiegel“ hatte die Aufnahmen in seinem Beitrag „Irak: Inside Mossul“ am vergangenen Sonntag ebenfalls gezeigt. Im Gegensatz zu „Spiegel Online“ hat die ARD-Sendung allerdings den Hinweis „Quelle: Propaganda-Video IS“ eingeblendet:

Um die ansprechende Straßenatmosphäre in Mossul zu visualisieren, bediente sich Sydow ausgerechnet des neuesten Propagandamaterials, das der „Islamische Staat“ produziert hat, der die irakische Stadt seit Mitte 2014 im Würgegriff aus Terror und Einschüchterung hält. Amaq News Agency lautet der Name des IS-Sprachrohrs, welches Sydow zunächst ohne jegliche kritische Einordnung oder Kennzeichnung als Materialquelle auffuhr.

Den Fall aufgedeckt hatte die medienkritische Plattform Bildblog und schlussfolgerte:

Wenn „Spiegel Online“ sich Propagandamaterial von Terroristen zu eigen macht, dann kann man seinen harschen Kritikern, die vom „propagandaspiegel“ schreiben, in diesem Fall leider nicht mal widersprechen.
