‚Democracy Spring‘ Is Using Civil Disobedience To Spotlight Money‘s Influence In Washington
Elizabeth Lindquist of Roscoe is the group’s Midwest coordinator. She was arrested during a sit-in Monday, along with Danielle Craig of Rockford and Ed Klein of Freeport. Lindquist says Americans need to take back their democracy because money is more important than an individual’s vote. She says she thinks it‘s an important message that everybody‘s beginning to understand.
Creating Resilient Communities
Conflict happens in isolation — isolation from our larger consciousness. But the thing is, we have enormous resources for the sane and even productive handling of conflict, mostly, alas, under the social radar. The stories we tell ourselves — the movies and TV shows we watch, the pseudo-news we absorb in the media — are primarily about the consequence-free triumph of good violence over bad violence, and the endless necessity to stay on the aggressive defensive against our enemies. The “next war” is inevitable. And peace is simply the lull between wars.
600+ Arrests in Nation‘s Capital Aimed at Rapidly ‚Shifting Political Weather‘
Though you wouldn‘t know it by tuning in to mainstream media, more than 600 people have been arrested in the nation‘s capital since Monday as part of Democracy Spring, the mass civil disobedience campaign aimed at getting big money out of politics, restoring voting rights, and reviving democracy.
What I Learned From My March With Democracy Spring
I was arrested in the afternoon and didn’t get out until midnight. I joined the others at a holding facility that looked like a warehouse, and we spent our time there doing the same thing we’d done on the 140-mile march that brought us here from Philadelphia. We talked about why we were here and why we felt as strongly as we did.
East Coast Verizon workers go on strike
When 36,000 Verizon employees walked off the job Wednesday, the action represented one of the biggest work stoppages in the country since the last strike at the telecommunications giant in 2011. The workers’ aggressive stance reflects the turmoil in an industry undergoing rapid technological change while its veteran workforce fights to protect its jobs.
Kuwait demands Israel joins Non-Proliferation Treaty
Kuwait has called for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons, stressing that Israel must join the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (NPT). “There are some regions like the Middle East that are still far from achieving the desired goal due to Israel’s possession of nuclear weapons and ignoring all legitimate and international resolutions,” said Abdulaziz Ammash Ajmi, first secretary of Kuwait’s permanent delegation to the United Nations, on Wednesday during the 2016 substantive session of the Disarmament Commission in New York.

Israel Participates in Joint Air Exercise in Greece Against Iran’s S-300 Missiles
(19.5.2015) The impending nuclear deal coupled with Russia’s supplying Iran with the S-300 anti-air missile system has made a military solution to a potential crisis in Iran more difficult for Israel to implement. In order to prepare for such an eventuality, the IAF recently ran a joint training exercise with the Greek military.
The mission took place from April 20-30, when Israel joined the Hellenic Air Force’s INIOHOS-2015 exercise, one of its largest annual drills, in which at least 150 combat planes from all HAF squadrons took part.
