Reserving the right to object, we have entered into a momentous debate. This is a debate about whether or not a warrant with a single name of a single company can be used to collect all the records, all of the phone records of all of the people in our country with a single warrant. Our forefathers would be aghast.

One of the things they despised was general warrants. This is a debate that should be had, and the reason I am objecting is because I‘ve made a very simple request, to have amendments, to have them voted on, and to have a guarantee that they‘re voted on.

I started out the day with a request for six amendments; I‘m willing to compromise to having two amendments at a simple majority vote. I think that‘s a very reasonable position, and if we can‘t have that and we can‘t have an extensive debate over something we‘ve had four years to prepare for, I will object, and I do. I object.

Today the Ben Franklin caucus stood tall and proved that supporters of mass surveillance can no longer bully the U.S. Senate into extending an illegal and unconstitutional law by running out the clock. When Sen. McConnell tried to extend Patriot Act for five more days, I said no more.

(13.Dezember 2012) Auch die Invasion Syriens folgt geradezu dreist einem Klischee des alten U.S.-Imperialismus zu Zeiten des “Gleichgewicht des Terrors (Schreckens)”, nur diesmal ohne Gegner: der Invasion Afghanistans in den 80er Jahren durch “islamistische” Proxy-Armeen; nur diesmal nicht über den Verbündeten Pakistan, sondern über die Türkei. Wir alle wissen (nicht), was das später noch für Folgen hatte.

Nur die Krieg wollten – weil sie Kriegsgewinnler sind, im sogenannten “Westen” rund um den Erdball – bekamen seit 30 Jahren stets was sie wollten. Es hörte nie auf. Es wird auch nie aufhören, dieser ganze Krieg wird nie aufhören, wenn er nicht gestoppt wird. Und gestoppt wird dieser Krieg nicht durch Schwäche, nicht durch Gerede, nicht durch Verhandlungen, Dialog und naive Träume, sondern indem er gestoppt wird.

Gesetzt den Fall, das Regime in Damaskus gewinnt den Krieg. Was würde passieren? Glaubt irgendjemand im Ernst, es würde unter irgendeinem Bevölkerungsteil ein Massaker anrichten, weil dieser vermeintlich oder tatsächlich die Invasoren unterstützt hat? Nein. Das Regime wäre a) viel zu schwach dafür sich es mit irgendeinem Teil der Bevölkerung zu verscherzen, b) würde es dies schlicht nicht wagen, da die internationale Aufmerksamkeit des gedemütigten, sich spätestens seit 1990 für unfehlbar und gottgewollt gehaltenen imperialistischen “Westen” enorm hoch wäre.

Ganz anders im Falle einer Niederlage des syrischen Regimes. Erst augenzwinkernd, dann Augen und Reihen fest geschlossen haltend würden Regierungen und Presse der Länder in Europa, in Amerika und bei den Verbündeten in Asien – wie nach der Invasion Libyens – Folterlager, Geheimgefängnisse, Massaker und Schreckensherrschaft der neuen Herrscher im blitzschnell zerfallenden Syrien einfach übersehen. Ein, zwei Jubelfeiern noch, den Sturz bemalter Assad-Statuen inklusive, “Thank you, Mr. Obama”, Werbung, nächste Folge. Wo waren wir stehengeblieben? Ah. Iran. Nein, vorher noch schnell Libanon.

Man kann sich nicht, man muss sich fragen, wer das russische Außenministerium kontrolliert. Das Gleiche gilt für das syrische Außenministerium von Walid al Muallem (Walid al-Moallem), dessen Sprecher Jihad Makdissi am 23. Juni um die Bombardierung bettelte, um dann Anfang Dezember als Überläufer sehnlichst in Washington bzw der U.S.-Botschaft in London erwartet zu werden, dort aber angeblich nie ankam.

Nach der Eroberung Palmyras ist auch der letzte offene Grenzübergang zwischen Syrien und dem Irak in die Hände des „Islamischen Staates“ gefallen. Die Terrormiliz kontrolliert nun mehr als die Hälfte Syriens.
