Over 400 Rabbis call on Prime Minister Netanyahu to stop administrative home demolitions

So far, over 400 rabbis and cantors from Israel, the USA, Canada, Britain and other countries have signed the call to Prime Minister Netanyahu to stop the practice of home demolitions. Every year, hundreds of Palestinian homes are demolished due to discriminatory administrative plans created and implemented by the Israel military without significant Palestinian influence. Palestinians are very rarely allowed to build, even on their own land.

Massive Deaths in Border Desert Caused by US Immigration Policy

ROBERT NEUSTADT: The North American Free Trade Agreement, which was signed in 1994, is the biggest single economic factor that caused undocumented migration from Mexico to the US to “explode.” Prior to NAFTA, Mexico was a corn exporting country. It is important to understand that corn is central to Mexican culture. This goes beyond the fact that tortillas are a food staple–according to the Mayan creation myth, human beings were made from corn. After NAFTA was signed, the US started exporting US government-subsidized corn grown by industrial farms to Mexico. Mexican farmers with small milpas (corn plots) could not compete. The price of corn dropped 75% and millions of small and mid-sized Mexican farmers lost their land. This rippled outward to those who processed corn, transported corn, made tortillas and ate tortillas. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we started constructing walls on the border the same year that NAFTA was signed.

Merkel, Putin Almost Certainly Talked Ukraine Federalization

The problem is that since everyone pretends that federalisation is an internal Ukrainian issue to be agreed freely between the two Ukrainian sides, its terms will only be thrashed out once constitutional negotiations between the two Ukrainian sides begin. Since the junta will never willingly agree to federalisation, in reality its form will have to be hammered out in private by Moscow after consultations with the NAF and with Berlin and Paris and then imposed on the junta in the negotiations.

The Re-Colonization of Africa by Agribusiness

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) seems to have all the answers. Started by the Bill and Melinda Gates and Rockefeller Foundations and fronted by African dignitaries, their goals for Africa appear to be remarkably similar to those of the first Green Revolution, increasing agricultural production through increased inputs, monoculture farming, production of grain crops for the global market and little in the way of societal change to empower small scale farmers, women or the poor.

THE VISITOR – official movie trailer (english)

“The visitor” is a unique cinematic experiment. The whole movie has been created through un-staged improvisations with random encounters on the streets of Mumbai, Shanghai and São Paulo. With no previous idea of what is going to happen, the filmmaker as „the visitor“ and her camera woman just threw themselves into some of the hugest cities of the world, trying to pass the borders of fear, anonymity and even identity. Strictly not using words as a tool of communication, “the visitor” manages to get surprisingly close to some of those chance encounters: A cabdriver in São Paulo who lives in his cab since 15 years, a chinese migrant worker, a successful young woman in Shanghai. She attends their daily life, becomes a silent friend and even beloved one who shares sleeping places and worries. Through this new presence in their life, not only the loneliness of the different people becomes apparent, but, as the relation intensifies, the border between “I” and “the other”, between observer and observed one starts to blur.

Trailer: Right to land and seed – Food sovereignty in times of climate change (Bangladesh)

„Food sovereignty“ is the main political demand of the landless and peasant movement in Bangladesh in times of climate change and intensifying land conflicts. The concept of food sovereignty is based on the right to grow their own food, with own seeds and in an ecologically sustainable way of farming. The peasant movement fights for a revolutionary land reform and self-determined food production, in order to improve and guarantee the local and national food supply. One strategy to strengthen the demand for food sovereignty is the occupation of land by groups of small farmers. According to the law, landless farmers have a right to land which often isn‘t enforced due to corruption and unequal power relations.

Abe Foxman Calls on Benjamin Netanyahu To Scrap Speech to GOP Congress

“It’s a tragedy of unintended consequences,” Foxman told the Forward, describing how the idea of presenting Israel’s view on Iran spiraled out of control, reaching even the Jon Stewart show, a step, Foxman said, that “turned the whole thing into a circus.”
