After overcoming a political crisis that threatened to sink its new democracy, Tunisia approved a new constitution at the start of the year and won praise as a model for a region struggling with chaos and violence.
The large number of parties in Sunday‘s election, from Salafist movements to Socialists, means a coalition is the probable outcome before the 217-member assembly selects a new prime minister.(..)
Electoral authorities said announcing a preliminary count would be impossible on Sunday with polling station tallies still arriving, but they expected partial results for the parliamentary ballot by Monday morning.

Kerry just snubbed a gov’t minister who calls for segregated bus lines. And that’s a bad thing?

Everything that’s wrong with the Israel lobby and U.S. public policy and Zionist Israel is in this story: An Israeli government minister whom the U.S. secretary of state had the fortitude to snub on his latest visit to the U.S. has come out for segregated bus lines in the West Bank. And we’re supposed to feel defensive about snubbing this character? And ambassador Samantha Power was compelled to meet with him? Cry my beloved country.

First, here’s the Kerry snub. Back in the spring Israeli defense minister Moshe Ya’alon called Kerry “messianic” in his pursuit of a peace plan.

Tens of Thousands of Jews Leaving Israel for Germany

The other factor driving young people from Israel is the expanding power of its ultranationalists, many of whom have been encouraged to settle in Israel from parts of Asia and Eastern Europe to fill the void left by those who are leaving and to increase the country’s population as it seizes more Palestinian land and builds settlements on it.

How Israel forces Bedouins to live in a graveyard

Located in the Naqab (Negev) region of present-day Israel, al-Araqib is older than the state itself: its cemetery dates back to 1914. Yet that is not considered significant by the authorities.

Die schmutzigen Tricks der Deutschen Bahn

(19. Oktober)

At this rate, every Tom, Dick and Harriet will soon be an anti-Semite

At the speed we’re going, it’s just a matter of time before anti-Semites take over the world. Just a few years ago they were relatively few and far between, hiding under a rock here or concealing their true colors there, but now, almost out of nowhere, anti-Semites are springing up everywhere, at least if you go by the right-wing’s constantly revised and perpetually expanding definitions.

Want to get rich? Don‘t be an anti-Semite

Germans who live in districts where pogroms occurred during the Black Death (in the 14th century) are 12 percent less likely to invest.

Media source: Denial of government’s support to Syrian Kurds does not change the fact nor the government’s attitude

Damascus, SANA – A media source stressed on Sunday that the support which the Syrian government has provided to the Syrian Kurds against the terrorist organization of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is known, documented and comprehensive.

The stress came in response to “some Syrian Kurdish figures who deny that the Syrian government offered support to the Syrian Kurds in their efforts to confront ISIS.”

This denial, the source said, “doesn’t alter the truth or the fact, nor does it change the essence of the Syrian government’s attitude which primarily stems from its national commitments toward our people all over Syria.”

The Police Are Still Out of Control. I should know.

Police make up a peculiar subculture in society. More often than not they have their own moral code of behavior, an “us against them” attitude, enforced by a Blue Wall of Silence. It’s their version of the Mafia’s omerta. Speak out, and you’re no longer “one of us.” You’re one of “them.”
