France may pay for future US military assistance in Mali
„US forces are committed to support France‘s counter-terrorism efforts in Mali,“ an anonymous US military source said in an email to AFP. „We have been closely working with French forces (…) and this week we extended our support by providing cargo aircraft and refuelling capabilities.“
But the new air war in Syria and Iraq could force Washington to redeploy its robotic drones and others spy planes from west Africa to the Middle East.

Der Prozess gegen Lothar König gerät nun auf die Ebene einer Grundrechtsdebatte. Die Frage wird immer entscheidender: Was darf ein Demonstrant auf einer Demonstration tun und was nicht? Inwieweit kann man Musik abspielen, die möglicherweise anschließend von einer sächsischen Staatsanwältin als „aufwieglerisch“ eingeordnet wird? Und in wie weit muss man dieses einkalkulieren, wenn man sich in einer Demonstration von 1.000 Menschen bewegt? Kann ein Lautsprecherwagen überhaupt noch benutzt werden, wenn daraus dann gegenüber dem Fahrer Landfriedensbruch konstruiert wird? Die Staatsanwaltschaft Dresden stellt nicht nur eine gängige Demonstrationspraxis, sondern schlicht die Ausübung dieses Grundrechts in Frage. Es ist damit kein Einzelfall – aber der Vorreiter.

In diesem Frühjahr überrollte eine Werbekampagne sondergleichen Jena. Ein Schwibbogen mit städtischen Mitarbeitern und illegaler Videoüberwachung, ein merkwürdiges Video, ein Facebook-Auftritt, eine glücklich machende Werbeagentur und Kosten im sechsstelligen Bereich – für die Stadt, ohne entsprechenden Stadtratsbeschluss. Die Rede ist von der vermurksten Eichplatz-Kampagne der Stadt Jena, die unter dem hehren Ziel der Kommunikation und Bürgerbeteiligung daher kam. Die meisten Bürgerinnen und Bürger fanden diese späte Einbeziehung durch städtische Stellen abstoßend und überfrachtet. Ten years ago, six members of the U.S. military came together to break their silence over what they had witnessed during the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. They banded together and formed the organization Iraq Veterans Against the War, or IVAW. Over time, they gathered like-minded veterans across the United States to form a contemporary GI resistance movement. Celebrated its tenth anniversary, IVAW members say it is a bittersweet moment as the United States has resumed bombing in Iraq. Today, IVAW chapters are in 48 states and numerous bases overseas. The group has called for reparations for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan — for both human and infrastructural damages caused by the U.S.-led invasion. They have also called for adequate healthcare to be provided at VA facilities, including mental healthcare, for all returning veterans. We host a roundtable with three IVAW members: co-founder Kelly Dougherty, who was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq from 2003-2004; Brock McIntosh, who served in Afghanistan and applied for conscientious objector status; and Scott Olsen, a former marine who served two tours in Iraq and was critically wounded after being shot in the head by a police projectile at an Occupy Oakland protest.

Forcing an Island of Peace to Host a Billion-Dollar Military Base
The island and its inhabitants are unwilling hosts to a giant, $1-billion naval base currently being built. The construction is wrecking a great deal of Jeju‘s stunning natural environment.
Though the base will technically belong to South Korea, it can be commandeered by the United States under the terms of the country‘s alliance agreement with Washington. The facility is making way for some 20 warships, several submarines, and up to 8,000 marines. It‘s also going to be home to a squadron of U.S.-built Aegis missile interceptors, designed — the Pentagon apparently believes — to take out enemy rockets before they strike a target.

Victoria police have arrested eight protesters who broke into a “top secret” military base on Swan Island.
The protesters, part of a group called the Swan Island Peace Convergence, entered the training facility run by the Australian Defence Force on the island near Queenscliff on Wednesday night. A spokeswoman for Victoria police confirmed the eight would be charged with commonwealth trespass.

November 2012) 1965 begannen die U.S.A. während des Krieges gegen Nordvietnam ein ebenso mörderisches, wie geheimes Bombardement gegen das neutrale Kambodscha, was bis 1954 Kolonie Frankreichs gewesen war. 2,7 Millionen Tonnen Bomben zwischen 1965 bis 1973 beförderten Kambodscha “zurück in die Steinzeit” und töteten 200.000 Menschen. Den U.S.-Bomberpiloten wurde vom Pentagon sogar verboten, die eigenen Vorgesetzten zu informieren. Die angeblichen Militärstützpunkte Nordvietnams in Kambodscha, wegen denen die Bombardements vermeintlich durchgeführt wurden, existierten nicht.
Was die Tat von Wahnsinnigen war, wurde nachher als “Wahnsinnigen-Theorie” (“Madman-Theory”) verkauft: die U.S.-Regierung unter Präsident Richard Nixon und Außenminister Henry Kissinger (der später den Friedensnobelpreis bekam) behauptete, sie habe sich wahnsinnig benommen, um der Sowjetunion Angst vor einem Atomkrieg zu machen, damit diese Druck auf Nordvietnam ausübe, damit das den Krieg gegen die U.S.A. beende, den die U.S.A. selbst begonnen hatten.

UK’s much delayed Watchkeeper drone deployed to Afghanistan
The UK’s new Watchkeeper drone has finally been sent to Afghanistan. Well over three years late and just weeks before UK forces are due to be withdrawn, the MoD announced that Watchkeeper had become “fully operational.” However it is not clear what this means especially as all remaining UK troops in Afghanistan have been withdrawn to Camp Bastion and with the MoD announcing last month that all UK “offensive operations” have ceased. The MoD refused to tell journalists how many Watchkeepers have actually been sent to Afghanistan.

In recent weeks, two separate United Nations human rights treaty bodies expressed their concern that ethnic and religious profiling by Japan’s police violate fundamental rights. In typically restrained diplomatic language, the UN Committee to Eliminate Racial Discrimination wrote that “profiling based on stereotypical assumptions that persons of a certain ‘race’, national or ethnic origin or religion are particularly likely to commit crime may lead to practices that are incompatible with the principle of non-discrimination.” The Committee urged the government of Japan to “ensure that its law enforcement officials do not rely on ethnic or ethno-religious profiling of Muslims.”1

Moreover, PCHR is concerned that this mechanism would institutionalize the Israeli closure that has been imposed since 2007. PCHR calls for fully and immediately lift the Israeli closure as it constitutes a form of collective punishment that is prohibited under the international humanitarian law. Ending the closure includes eliminating all restrictions imposed on the freedom of movement of persons and goods, including imports and exports, to and from the Gaza Strip.
