(28.9.2018) Boris quit the cabinet back in July in protest at the Chequers plan, and has been a thorn in the side of the PM ever since – despite battles in his personal life.

And Rees-Mogg has been steadily growing in popularity as he represents the hard Brexiteer wing of the Tories – chairing the powerful Eurosceptic faction The European Research Group.

Tory donor threatens to fund new Brexit party after Chequers ‘fiasco’

Jeremy Hosking, a co-owner of Crystal Palace football club, suggested that the “fiasco” of Theresa May’s Chequers plan was a conspiracy to prevent the UK leaving the European Union.
He told The Sunday Telegraph that he had carried out private polling which showed “clear support for a Brexit party that will deliver what the electorate thought it would be getting”.

MERK TO THE RESCUE: Theresa May offered Brexit lifeline by Angela Merkel who insists EU leaders give PM ‘one last chance’ to sell Chequers plan to them

The Times is reporting that the German Chancellor Ms Merkel is frustrated the talks are not leading to a breakthrough, and is taking matters into her own hands.

She is said to have suggested they use the summit scheduled in Austria for the PM to hold direct talks to avert a no-deal Brexit.

Our snap survey. Three in five Party members believe May’s new Brexit plan represents a bad deal for Britain.

After all, one might think it would be a bad deal for Britain, if implemented, but still back it, perhaps out of Party loyalty. (We’re not expressing a view on such a stance; merely pointing out that it’s possible.)

But at any rate, there’s next to no difference between the two findings. Three in five panel members think the plan would represent a bad deal for Britain if implemented, and the same proportion don’t support it.
