UKâs Sunak fires aide who called for Israel-Hamas ceasefire
Tory MP Paul Bristow, who served as Technology Secretary Michelle Donelanâs parliamentary private secretary, was ousted from that role following a letter he sent to Sunak last week accusing Israel of carrying out âcollective punishmentâ on the people of Gaza.
âPaul Bristow has been asked to leave his post in government following comments that were not consistent with the principles of collective responsibility,â a Downing Street spokesperson says.
Netanyahu dismisses calls for ceasefire, says that would be surrender to Hamas

Quoting a verse from the biblical scripture of Ecclesiastes, Netanyahu told the crowd, âThere is a time for peace and a time for war.â
âThis is a time for war,â he continued. âA war for a common future. Today we draw a line between the forces of civilization and the forces of barbarism. It is a time for everyone to decide where they stand.â
White House says ceasefire in Gaza is not âthe right answer right nowâ

The United States does not support current calls for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict, the White House says, adding that âpausesâ to get aid into Gaza should be considered instead.
âWe do not believe that a ceasefire is the right answer right now,â National Security Council spokesman John Kirby says. âWe do not support a ceasefire at this time.â
