With 14 votes in favour and one abstention (Egypt), the resolution welcomed progress made towards universalization of the Treaty, noting that 183 States have signed the Treaty and 166 States have deposited their instruments of ratification. The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty bans all nuclear explosions for both civilian and military purposes. Adopted by the UN General Assembly under resolution 50 (1996), the Treaty will enter into force 180 days after the date of deposit of the instruments of ratification by all States listed in its Annex 2.

The resolution points out that in the first place this concerns the eight countries that possess nuclear weapons or the capability to make them – Egypt, Israel, India, Iran, China, North Korea, Pakistan and the United States. The CTBT can take effect only after all these countries have joined it.

Syrian jets pound east Aleppo ahead of upcoming offensive
The Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAYF) has begun their aerial campaign over the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo tonight, targeting the Fatah Halab controlled districts of Sakhour, Hanano, Al-Sukkari, Bab Al-Maqam, and Bustan Al-Qasr.
According to a military source in Aleppo, the Syrian Air Force has conducted over 40 airstrikes tonight above the eastern neighborhoods, striking several Fatah Halab hideouts around the city.
