Wir, die Unterzeichneten dieses Appells, erschüttert durch die laufenden Ereignisse im „Gaza-Streifen“,

klagen die gegenwärtigen in Israel Herrschenden an, dass sie in der Konfrontation mit dem palästinensischen Volk eine Politik führen im Zeichen des kolonialen Expansionismus, der ethnischen Reinigung, der Massaker;

We are witnessing Israel’s third military operation in the Gaza strip in the past six years. We are alarmed and horrified by the death and destruction being committed in our name. This is a moment of truth for the Jewish community, a moment that demands action.

The Gaza war has given birth to a new Jewish organization of young people who are highly critical of the Jewish establishment’s support for Israel. Called #IfNotNow, the group held an organizing meeting in New York last night. Eighty people attended (by the looks of it, almost all of them young). (…)

(6. August 2014) Former US President Jimmy Carter has decried Israel’s recent offensive against Gaza, saying Netanyahu’s state has created a “humanitarian catastrophe” and that „war crimes“ against civilians on both sides should be investigated.

In a joint comment piece penned with Ireland’s former President Mary Robinson, Carter, 89, argues that there is no “humane or legal justification” for Israel’s actions in the beleaguered Strip, stating that the IDF has “pulverized large parts of Gaza including thousands of homes, schools and hospitals”.

August 2014) Carter, der von 1977 bis 1981 Präsident der Vereinigten Staaten war und unter dessen Obhut der israelisch-ägyptische Friedensvertrag 1979 zustande kam, sieht in der im April gebildeten palästinensischen Einheitsregierung einen „vielversprechenden Schritt“ in Richtung Frieden. Er wirft Israel jedoch vor, die Umsetzung der Regierung verhindert und damit eine Friedenschance vertan zu haben.

(17. Mai 2010) Die Hamas werde einen palästinensischen Staat im Westjordanland und dem Gazastreifen akzeptieren. Die Organisation fordert laut Carter allerdings, das ein von Abbas ausgehandeltes Abkommen dem Volk zur Abstimmung vorgelegt wird.

„Dies bedeutet, dass die Hamas die Bemühungen von Palästinenserpräsident Mahmud Abbas um eine Vereinbarung nicht untergraben wird“, sagte Carter in einer Rede weiter.

(31. August 2009) in today‘s WSJ piece, Meshaal is quoted saying „Hamas and other Palestinian groups are ready to cooperate with any American, international or regional effort to find a just solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, to end the Israeli occupation and to grant the Palestinian people their right of self-determination.“

If Meshaal is truly speaking on behalf of all of Hamas (and Hamas is much better at speaking with a unified voice than most Palestinian parties), then he is actually endorsing President Obama‘s efforts to quickly negotiate an end to the conflict and is offering Hamas „cooperation“ in that regard.

(02.04.2008) Meshal was also asked about Israel‘s claims that he is no longer in charge of Hamas and that he lost control to Ahmed al-Ja‘abari, the head of the group‘s military wing in the Gaza Strip. Meshal responded by saying Israel‘s views are like the stock market: sometimes Khaled Meshal is responsible for Hamas and sometimes he has lost control.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad al-Malki said there was „clear evidence“ of war crimes by Israel during its offensive in Gaza as he met International Criminal Court prosecutors on Tuesday to push for an investigation.

Damascus, SANA –Information Minister, Omran al-Zoubi, said that Saad al-Hariri is a parrot that echoes what the Saudi regime is saying and his speech is merely nonsense that does not deserve to be answered or commented on.

Al-Zoubi added in response to reporters’ questions that al-Hariri prefers to be a spokesperson of the Saudi regime rather than supporting his country’s army in face of terrorism.

August) Die Minister waren sich einig, dass zur Beilegung der Lage die Erreichung von solchen Abkommen notwendig ist, die zu einer umfassenden Lösung des Gazaproblems führen und die Wiederholung von Gewaltrückfällen ausschließen. Außenminister Lawrow bestätigte die russische Unterstützung für die ägyptische Initiative, welche auf die Lösung dieser Aufgaben ausgerichtet ist, und begrüßte die Schritte Kairos zur Herstellung von Kontakten zwischen den Palästinensern und den Israelis mit dem Ziel einer Normalisierung der Lage rund um den Gazastreifen.

Unter den Ministern kam es auch zu einem Meinungsaustausch über die sich akut zuspitzende Lage in Libyen, wobei das gegenseitige Interesse hervorgehoben wurde, zur Stabilisierung der Lage und zu ihrer Überführung auf die Ebene einer politischen Beilegung durch Förderung des nationalen Dialogs beizutragen.

(4. August) Wir bringen einige konkrete Fakten.

Am 2. August beschoss die ukrainische Artillerie im Gebiet Lugansk die Stadt Perwomajsk. Wohnhäuser wurden zerstört und es gibt Verletzte. Durch Geschosse wurden zwei Umspannwerke beschädigt. In der Stadt gibt es keine Wasserversorgung und keinen Mobilfunk. Zerstört wurde das Eisenbahnkrankenhaus und beschädigt sind Gebäude der Polyklinik und des Säuglingsheims. Beschädigt ist auch die Gasleitung.

An diesem Tag beschossen die ukrainischen Soldaten aus Granatwerfern eine Schule in Donezk, wobei ein Mann und eine Frau getötet wurden. Im Gebäude wurden die Fenster ausgeschlagen und es brach Feuer aus.

Im Donbass erfolgte zwischen den Volksmilizen und den ukrainischen Sicherheitskräften ein Austausch von Gefangenen und Getöteten. Wie Vertreter der Volksmilizen mitteilen, waren an den Körpern von drei der zwölf Gefallenen Folterspuren zu sehen. Außerdem haben die meisten der in Gefangenschaft gewesenen Volksmilizionäre gebrochene Knochen und beschädigte innere Organe.
