Ein Verkauf würde eine Privatisierung dieses öffentlichen Raumes darstellen und nähme den Einwohnern auf lange Zeit jede Gestaltungsmöglichkeit. Der Verbleib in kommunaler Hand soll eine gemeinwohlorientierte Nutzung der Fläche garantieren.

During his last visit to Beirut on 3 May 2012, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman met with former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, former finance minister Mohamad Chatah, Future Movement leader Nader Hariri, and a number of Future Bloc MPs at Saad Hariri’s residence in Beirut’s city center.
The meeting included discussions on many issues, mostly regarding the way forward in Syria and Lebanon, among others. Al-Akhbar was able to obtain a partial transcript of the meeting’s minutes.

Ohio‘s Lake Erie Correctional Institution becomes the first state prison sold for $72.7 million. The nation‘s largest prison operator, Corrections Corporation of America bought the institute and will take control later this year, pending the outcome of a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the move.

Before becoming Ambassador to Lebanon, Feltman volunteered to serve at the Coalition Provisional Authority office in Irbil, Iraq, from January to April 2004. Prior to his work in Iraq, he was at the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem, where he served first as Deputy (August 2001-November 2002) and then as Acting Principal Officer (November 2002 to December 2003).

The other man who accompanied Shapiro to Damascus was career diplomat Jeffrey Feltman. Feltman‘s career took him to Israel three times (twice at the embassy and once at the Jerusalem consulate), once to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq and, most controversially, as ambassador to Lebanon.
It was in Lebanon that Feltman made it very clear that he favored the March 14 movement of the Hariri clan, and Israel‘s agenda. The enemy was Shi‘ite Hezbollah. Things were so tense between Feltman and Hezbollah‘s leader Hassan Nasrallah that after the Israeli bombing of Lebanon in 2006, Nasrallah dubbed the Lebanese government of Fuad Siniora as „Feltman‘s government“ (Siniora ran the Hariri family‘s banking operations before he took on the mantle as head of government).
