Im Norden Syriens sollen bei einem Luftangriff auf ein Flüchtlingslager 28 Menschen getötet worden sein. Nach Angaben von Aktivisten gab es zudem Dutzende Verletzte. Unter den Opfern sollen auch Kinder sein. Zunächst war unklar, wer die Luftangriffe geflogen hatte.

Mit dem Dienstantritt des neuen Flugabwehr-Raketenkomplexes S-500 wird Russland seinen Luftraum komplett gegen Luftangriffe absichern: Das neue System kann selbst im Weltraum fliegende Ziele abschießen, ganz zu schweigen von den konventionellen Bombenflugzeugen, schreibt „The National Interest“ (NI).

A year following “Operation Cast Lead”, Tel Aviv announced the discovery of the Leviathan natural gas field in the Eastern Mediterranean “off the coast of Israel.”

Sharon stellte eindeutig fest, dass „Israel nie von Palästina Gas kaufen werde“ und gab zu verstehen, dass die küstennahen Gasfelder Gazas Israel gehören würden.

The Leviathan gas field is a large natural gas field located in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Israel and the Gaza Strip, 47 kilometres (29 mi) south-west of the Tamar gas field.

(4.5.2016) Washington wants to force a political reconciliation between Netanyahu and Turkey’s Erdogan, including a deal in which Turkey would become a major buyer of Israeli offshore gas, making major purchase agreements from Leviathan. For Washington that would reduce Turkish dependency, today more than 60%, on imports of Russian gas. In return Israel would agree to sell Turkey advanced Israeli military equipment with Washington approval.

(25.4.2016) Now that the Israeli gas industry is in its poorest position in a long time (dependent on a single reservoir, with the gas plan having stalled, a global gas glut, and plunging global oil prices), it appears that Putin is trying his luck again. Russia‘s oil and gas revenues account for 50% of the country‘s income (45% from oil and 5% from natural gas), but for Putin, a stake in an Israeli gas reservoir is a strategic-geopolitical issue, not an economic one.

OE: One mustn’t accept this as a threat. I don’t think it sounds as a threat. It is a Russian attempt to say that beyond the economic interest we can add another positive consideration. However from clear strategic circumstances Israel shouldn’t consider that proposal. The interest of the Russians in [Israeli] gas is well known. So muss man als entscheidende Beobachtung für die Bilanz des Rechtsrucks festhalten, dass die linken Parteien, früher die SPD allein, und heute die SPD und die Grünen und einige Elemente der Linkspartei schon gar nicht mehr versuchen, eine politische Alternative zum Neoliberalismus zu formulieren und schon gar nicht versuchen, diese Alternative geistig und weltanschaulich und mit einer Wertorientierung zu unterfüttern. Egoismus und „jeder ist seines Glückes Schmied“ ist auch ihre Ideologie, mit kleinen Variationen. Sie haben schon in den neunziger Jahren und nachdrücklich im ersten Jahrzehnt des neuen Jahrhunderts ihren Willen zur fortschrittlichen Gestaltung unseres Landes aufgegeben – mit wenigen Ausnahmen, das betraf meist die Homo-Ehe oder etwas ähnliches und die Rechte der Frau. Lauter wichtige Sachen, aber sie sind nicht entscheidend für die Prägung einer linken Alternative. Sie haben den Willen zur Gestaltung unserer Gesellschaft im fortschrittlichen Sinne aufgegeben.
