Abbott’s replacement, Malcolm Turnbull, is seen as a more center-right politician than Abbott and hopes are that Turnbull will make the government a more collaborative institution in Australia. That’s the very thing that the modern GOP in America just can’t understand. People are tired of obstinate politics that only benefits the wealthy elites.

They want a system of cushy socialism for the rich and a savage, merciless capitalism for the poor. The real purpose of their ‘think tanks’ they created and fund—like the Heritage Foundation and the CATO Institute—is not to promote free market capitalism, but to gin up the philosophical underpinnings for a scheme of uncontrolled corporate profit taking. And the press, consolidated as it is into private monopolies, and relieved of social obligation are on the carbon and pharma pay role and in full cahoots with the scheme.

That left-wing Jewish organization today is J Street. While J Street is supportive of Israel and its right to defend itself, it also firmly believes in peace and diplomacy – such as a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite the fact that J Street lacks the virtually inexhaustible financial resources of AIPAC, the liberal Jewish organization was able to play a significant role in blocking the resolution to disapprove the Iran nuclear treaty. That victory is yet another demonstration that the power of money in politics has its limits – especially when it is opposed by passionate groups of committed people with history and good sense on their side.

According to reports, some 45,000 people attended the massive demonstration outside the National Diet, Japan’s parliament, in the capital, Tokyo, with many of the protesters holding up placards reading “No war” and “Scrap war legislation.”
