While the last round of TPP negotiations didn‘t lead to a deal, and some are questioning whether the agreement has effectively „stalled out,“ there‘s still plenty to be concerned about, and the TPP still has a decent chance of moving forward in the near future. David Post, who has studied copyright law and related issues for many years, has a fascinating article up discussing „some pretty nasty“ aspects for copyright law, which are „lurking“ in „a dark corner“ of the agreement.

These words, written over 170 years ago, describe the horrific conditions witnessed by Dickens at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, the first American prison to incorporate solitary confinement cells. Since then, the US Supreme Court has never ruled the practice unconstitutional, despite its clear violation of the Eighth Amendment’s ban on “cruel and unusual punishments.” Today, Dickens’ words accurately describe the daily torture inflicted upon upwards of 100,000 prisoners presently held in solitary confinement across the American gulag system.

The United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Pentagon’s Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) are carrying out a secret drone missile assassination program in Syria, the Washington Post reported late Tuesday.

The existence of the so-called targeted killing program has came to light in the wake of last month’s assassination of a British citizen identified as 21-year-old Junaid Hussein, a hacker who is described as a cyber expert for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Nach SPIEGEL-Informationen wurden in der Operation „Glotaic“ zwischen 2004 und 2006 Telefon- und Faxverkehre des US-Anbieters MCI an dessen deutschem Standort Hilden überwacht. Dabei wurden die Audiodaten abgehörter Gespräche „direkt nach USA geroutet“, damit „die Audiofunktion ohne Aussetzer funktioniert“, wie es in einem vertraulichen Papier des BND heißt.

Ich sage euch, wenn uns das vorher jemand gesagt hätte, dass uns unsere eigenen Geheimdienste so dreist belügen würden, dann hätten wir die schon vor Jahren zugemacht!1!!

Europäische Sicherheitsbehörden fordern Kontrollen und Überwachung im europäischen Bahnverkehr. Dies geht aus einer Erklärung hervor, die von den EU-Verkehrs- und Innenministern nach einem Treffen in Paris veröffentlicht wurde und mittlerweile auch auf englisch vorliegt.

Friday 28th August afternoon we went to our weekly demonstration, against the theft of our land and apartheid wall, in Bil’in. We have been doing this non-violent demonstration for 10 years. As usual the soldiers were waiting for us in front of our village but this time from the start of the demonstration we could feel that there was something different from the usual initial bombardment of tear gas from the soldiers jeeps.

Zumindest laut hat sich in Europa und den USA kaum jemand beschwert und das hat Tradition, schon die Strafgesetze, die die Regierung Erdogan vor 11 Jahren eingeführt hat und die seither als Instrument zur Unterdrückung jeder unliebsamen Äußerung funktionieren, wurden mit dem Segen Europas eingeführt. Hauptsache, die geograstrategische Rechnung stimmt.
