Eliot Higgins aka Brown Moses, the founder of Bellingcat „by and for citizen investigative journalists“, is beloved by NATO media. Higgins is always able to „prove“ by amateur „analysis“ of open source data that the „bad guys“, just as the U.S. or NATO claim, did indeed do the bad thing that happened. The problem is that Higgins is no expert of anything. He was an unemployed office worker who looked at Youtube videos from Syria and tried Internet searches to find out what weapons were visible in the videos. That is all that made him an „expert“.
But Higgins claimed to prove that the Syrian government launched rockets with Sarin on Ghouta, an area south of Damascus. An MIT professor and real expert proved (pdf) that he was wrong.
Higgins claimed to „prove“ that rockets launched from Russia hit Ukraine by looking at aerial pictures of impact craters. But a real expert of the method said that crater analysis is “highly experimental and prone to inaccuracy” and warned against its use without further corroboration.

(1993) The Tibet air-shower array, being successively operated at an altitude of 4300 m above sea level since 1990, has detected the shadows of the Sun and Moon in the 10 TeV cosmic-ray flux. In particular, the shadow of the Sun was observed in the direction significantly away from the apparent solar position, under the influence of the solar and interplanetary magnetic fields. A further analysis shows that the shadows by cosmic rays coming from the away and toward field sectors in the interplanetary space are shifted in opposite directions to one another according to the polarity of the fields. This is the first direct observation of the influence of the interplanetary magnetic field on the shadow‘s displacement. The results imply that observation of the cosmic-ray shadow by the Sun can produce new information on the relation between a time variation of the large-scale structure of the solar and interplanetary magnetic fields and the cycle of solar activity.

Solar Cycle 24 is the 24th solar cycle since 1755, when extensive recording of solar sunspot activity began. It is the current solar cycle, and began on January 4, 2008, but there was minimal activity until early 2010. It is on track to be the Solar Cycle with the lowest recorded sunspot activity since accurate records began in 1750.
(11.Januar 2005) Predicting the peak amplitude of the sunspot cycle is a key goal of solar-terrestrial physics. The precursor method currently favored for such predictions is based on the
dynamo model in which large-scale polar fields on the decline of the 11-year solar cycle are converted to toroidal (sunspot) fields during the subsequent cycle. The strength of the polar fields during the decay of one cycle is assumed to be an indicator of peak sunspot activity for the following cycle. Polar fields reach their peak amplitude several years after sunspot maximum; the time of peak strength is signaled by the onset of a strong annual modulation of polar fields due to the 7
1/4 tilt of the solar equator to the ecliptic plane. Using direct polar field measurements, now available for four solar cycles, we predict that the approaching solar cycle 24 (2011 maximum) will have a peak smoothed monthly sunspot number of 75 ± 8, making it potentially the smallest cycle in the last 100 years.
Der derzeitige Sonnenzyklus war nicht nur 30 Prozent schwächer als sein Vorgänger, sondern auch schwächer als alle Zyklen der letzten 80 bis 90 Jahre. Zuletzt war die Sonnenaktivität zwischen 1880 und 1920 so schwach ausgeprägt wie heute.
