Not In Our Name: Jewish Activists Arrested in Sit-in at Friends of Israel Defense Forces NYC Office

Protests in response to Israel’s assault on Gaza have drawn hundreds — and in some cases thousands — around the world. On Tuesday, members of Jewish Voice for Peace and Jews Say No! occupied the New York City office of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, a nonprofit group that raises money in the United States to send to the Israeli military. For about an hour, activists read the names of the more than 600 Palestinians killed and demanded the organization stop its fundraising for the military attacking Gaza. Nine were arrested when they refused to leave the premises. We get a video report from the protest.

Obama, Palestinian Lives Matter

The disaster we see unfolding in Gaza would not be possible without the US policy of one-sided military, economic, and diplomatic support for Israel in the extreme. It‘s up to us to force the US to adopt a new policy: one that can uphold the basic rights and fundamental dignity of Palestinians and Israelis alike. With over 500 people killed in the last ten days, there‘s no time to waste. Click here to send your message today:

Israel Provoked This War: It’s up to President Obama to stop it.

(22. Juli) Israel’s assault on Gaza, as pointed out by analyst Nathan Thrall in the New York Times, was not triggered by Hamas’ rockets directed at Israel but by Israel’s determination to bring down the Palestinian unity government that was formed in early June, even though that government was committed to honoring all of the conditions imposed by the international community for recognition of its legitimacy.

Jews must take action against Israeli brutality

The inhumanity of Israel’s murder and repression machine is continuously justified by the needs of so-called “Jewish safety” after the Nazi Holocaust. Since 2000, this machine has killed a Palestinian child every three days on average. If we, as descendants of multiple histories of genocide and persecution against Jewish peoples, accept that this is the “price of our safety,” we become complicit in what can only be described as a practice of human sacrifice. Less than two weeks ago, Mohammed Abu Khdeir, a Palestinian teenager, was horrifically set on fire and burned alive by a band of Israeli vigilantes. The perpetrator, however marginal themselves, were acting on the continuous drip of racist incitement against Arabs by the political and moral leaders of Israel. As Israeli fighter jet pilots set out once again on missions that will incinerate Palestinian children with the highest and most sophisticated technology of death, we have an obligation to make every effort, not just to say “not in our name”, but to help put an end to this.

We will overcome despite Israel‘s Nazi-like atrocities

By Khaled Amayreh – I know that the words of a journalist, however eloquent they may be, can‘t fully communicate the macabre scenes of carnage, especially when the victims are mostly children and other helpless civilians. And I wouldn‘t be telling the truth if I said that the scene of scattered child limbs and flesh chunks dispersed by the impact of Israeli bombs don‘t affect me or influence the way I think and feel.
