(24.10.2018) Theresa May’s invitation to speak to the members of the 1922 Committee at 5pm today has been the centre of fevered speculation. What everyone knows — it has been repeated ad nauseam in recent weeks — is that a vote of no-confidence in the Prime Minister is triggered when 15 per cent of Tory MPs write a letter to the 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady. Currently it would take 48 letters to be submitted. Brady alone knows how many letters are received — despite endless press reports of it being “close”.
