In a bid to save the talks from collapsing, the Chancellor said he was âoptimisticâ ministers would be able to reach an agreement with Labour and âshould be open to listen to suggestionsâ.
However, his intervention has provoked a furious backlash among Brexiteers, who accused him of âdeliberately touting his own viewâ and attempting to push Theresa May into signing up to a customs union.
