James asked Congress to lift restrictions on funding for the Air Force’s next-generation weather satellite program, known as the Weather Satellite Follow-on. Congress had fenced about $21 million from the program in 2015 and 2016 as part of the National Defense Authorization Act amid concerns the Air Force was not focusing on preventing two more immediate gaps in weather satellite data: cloud characterization data and in-theater weather imagery. Lawmakers also wanted a broader weather strategy from the Defense Department. That document is expected to go to Congress soon, sources said.

In the Aug. 3 announcement, the Air Force said it would be open to acquiring a new government-owned satellite, buying the weather data from a commercial company, or developing a solution that combines government-supplied missile warning data with conventional weather data.

“It is obvious that, behind these claims, there are some political circles in Germany whose double-standard manners in the fight against terror, including the bloody actions of the PKK [outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party] terror organization, which continues to target Turkey,” read the statement.

“As a country, which sincerely fights against all kinds of terror no matter what their roots are, Turkey expects from its other partners and allies too to act in the same way,” the ministry statement said.

We‘ve already made it quite clear where we stand on Peter Thiel financing a number of lawsuits against Gawker Media as some sort of retaliation for some articles he didn‘t like. Lots of people who really hate Gawker don‘t seem to care how problematic Thiel‘s actions are, but you should be concerned, even if you dislike Gawker — in part, because many of the lawsuits Thiel appears to be backing are clearly bogus and just designed to bankrupt the company, which happened a couple months ago.

This week is the auction to see who ends up with Gawker, and Thiel is taking a weird victory lap with a silly and misleading oped in the NY Times where he argues that this was really all about making a stand for privacy and has nothing to do with shitting on the First Amendment. There‘s a lot in the article that‘s bullshit, and it deserves a thorough debunking, so here we go.

Auch wenn es noch keine einheitliche Definition sogenannter hybrider Bedrohungen gibt, werden bereits Gegenmaßnahmen geplant.
