Any country that would harbor Fethullah Gülen, the leader of the parallel state that is regarded as the mastermind of July 15’s coup attempt would not be Turkey’s friend, the Turkish prime minister has said, obviously urging the United States where the self-exile religious leader lives since late 1990s.

For sure, a certain number of aircraft supported the coup: Turkish Air Force F-16s performed ultra low-level passes, at rooftop altitude, with full afterburners over Turkey’s capital Ankara during the opening hours of the takeover. There was one exception: A small number of U.S. planes that already were on missions before the airspace closed have been allowed to return and land at Incirlik, the official said, adding that there is no clear understanding about how long the airspace closure will last.
Earlier, the U.S. consulate in Adana reported that power to the base had been cut and local authorities were preventing movement onto and off the site.

In early 2010, Horst Köhler visited German troops serving in Afghanistan. As German president at the time, he needed to explain to a very skeptical public back home why over 6,000 soldiers serving under a NATO flag had been posted in a faraway country rife with conflict and danger.

And that is exactly what he did. Köhler told German radio that his country could no longer avoid involvement in military missions. For many hours Israel had officially kept silent at the events in Turkey. During the night, amid fighting between rebel and pro-Erdogan forces, U.S. President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry published statements clearly denouncing the military coup and expressing support of Turkey‘s democratically elected government. UPDATE 1: ERT TV reports that the passengers belong to Turkish military and have been arrested by Greek police as they illegally entered Greece. They asked for asylum.

UPDATE 2: ERT TV 7 helicopter passengers wearing uniforms had removed uniform insignia. It looks as if they were involved in the coup.

The Black Hawk helicopter landed after sending a distress signal to authorities at the airport in Alexandroupolis in the country‘s north. Seven of those on board were in military uniform and all are believed to have been involved in the coup bid, ERT TV said.

Ein Militärhubschrauber mit Putschteilnehmern ist bei Ankara abgeschossen worden, berichtet AP.

General Abidin Ünal, the commander of Air Force was attending the wedding of the daughter of General Mehmet Şanver, the commander of Eskişehir Combatant Air Unit, on the Anatolian side of Istanbul.

General Ünal and top cadres of the air force were present at the wedding organized at Moda Sea Club at the Anatolian side of Istanbul.

During the wedding, five helicopters landed to the garden while opening fire, according to daily Hürriyet.

Soldiers got off the helicopters and took Ünal, Şahver as well as other commanders as hostage.
Efforts are underway to get reach the commanders.

Der Ex-Oberkommandierende der türkischen Luftstreitkräfte, Akın Öztürk, könnte der mögliche Anführer des Putschversuchs gewesen sein, berichtet die Agentur DHA unter Berufung auf Militärquellen.

Nachdem der türkische Präsident Recep Erdogan in einer Videoansprache die Bevölkerung aufgerufen hat, sich auf die Straßen zu begeben, wendete sich das Blatt in Ankara und Istanbul. Am Samstagvormittag ist das Land wieder unter der Kontrolle der Regierung. 265 Menschen sind bei dem Umsturzversuch gestorben, 1.440 wurden verletzt. Den Putschisten drohen harte Vergeltungsmaßnahmen.
