Yanis Varoufakis was spotted with his wife on a boat to the island of Aegina where he owes a holiday home.
The former finance minister chose to travel to his favourite destination at a time when a crucial debate is taking place in the Greek Parliament on the bailout proposals.
What do I mean by that? Based on months of negotiation, my conviction is that the German finance minister wants Greece to be pushed out of the single currency to put the fear of God into the French and have them accept his model of a disciplinarian eurozone.

The working masses do not forget that the same people who are today betraying the ideas and principles of the Left are the same people who had promised to get rid of the Memorandum “within one day and with one law”. It’s the same people who promised the Salonica Programme (SYRIZA’s more radical pre-election promises), which they claimed would be carried out irrespectively of the negotiations with the Troika.
The leading group in SYRIZA and Alex Tsipras has been proven tragically incapable of responding to the tasks of the moment and unworthy of the confidence of the working class. They are unworthy of the earth-shaking ‘No’ vote on 5 July which reverberated throughout Europe and the whole world.
The Communist party has called their first anti-austerity rally on Syntagma Square in Athens since Greek voters rejected a deal with international creditors in a referendum on July 5.

Innerhalb SYRIZA stoßen v.a. die 13 Mrd. umfassenden Kürzungsmaßnahmen und die Privatisierungen auf Widerstand. Angeführt von Panagiotis Lafazanis, Minister für produktiven Wiederaufbau, Umwelt und Energie, fordern Abgeordnete und Mitglieder des Politischen Sekretariats von SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras auf, der „Erpressung durch die Gläubiger“ nicht nachzugeben. In einer vierseitigen Stellungnahme kritisieren sie, dass die Regierung keinen alternativen Plan für den Fall des Grexit erarbeitet habe. Sie appellieren an Tsipras, ein Brückenprogramm für den Übergang zu einer nationalen Währung vorzubereiten. Die ‚Linke Plattform‘ von Lafazanis ist mit vier Ministern in der Regierung vertreten.
Trotz ihrer Kritik am Verhandlungsvorschlag von Tsipras werden sie wohl in der im Moment noch stattfindenden Parlamentssitzung (18 Uhr) bei der Abstmmung die Regierung unterstützen.
Paris und Rom begrüßten den griechischen Vorschlag, auch an den Finanzplätzen herrschte Optimismus. Berlin reagierte zurückhaltend auf die Liste aus Athen.

Griechenland steht vor einer Entscheidung historischen Ausmaßes: Wagt Syriza den Bruch mit allen bestehenden Verhältnissen oder kapituliert sie vor den EUropäischen Institutionen? Eins ist bereits jetzt klar: An der Lage Griechenlands gibt es nichts zu beschönigen. Das von der griechischen Regierung vorgelegte Papier hat wenig bis gar nichts mit einem guten und fairen Kompromiss zutun. Aber alle in Griechenland haben Angst, eine reale und tiefsitzende Angst vor dem Grexit.
Nicht einmal die Vorschläge haben sich wesentlich verändert. Man muss schon sehr genau nachschauen, an welchen Stellen die neue Liste abweicht von jenem Papier, das vor 14 Tagen auf dem Tisch lag – und das eine große Mehrheit der Griechen bei dem Referendum am vergangenen Sonntag abgelehnt hatte.
Sie machen nun explizit und nicht länger nur vage Versprechen wie die Privatisierung des Stromnetzes; sie akzeptieren Forderungen, die sie Stimmen kosten werden, wie der Verzicht auf die Subventionierung von Dieseltreibstoff für die Landwirte. Vor allem aber ist die Regierung in der Frage der Pensionen in die Knie gegangen: Die Sozialhilfe für Bezieher kleinster Pensionen soll bis Ende 2019 schrittweise entfallen, wie es vor allem der Internationale Währungsfonds will.

How is it possible for a devastating “no” to memorandum austerity policies to be interpreted as a green light for a new memorandum? And to put it in commonsense terms: if they were disposed to sign something even worse and even more binding than European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker’s proposals, what was the point of the referendum and the struggle to achieve victory in it?
The sense of the absurd is not just a product of this unexpected reversal. It stems above all from the fact that all of this is unfolding before our eyes as if nothing has happened, as if the referendum were something like a collective hallucination that suddenly ends, leaving us to continue freely what we were doing before.

Die Lage in Athen spitzt sich dramatisch zu. Bei einem Treffen der Parlamentarier des Linksbündnisses Syriza regt sich am Freitagmittag heftiger Widerstand der Linken Plattform gegen Alexis Tsipras‘ Reformvorschläge an die internationalen Geldgeber. Ministerrücktritte werden angekündigt. Die Linke Plattform fordert den Austritt Griechenlands aus dem Euro.
