Yanis Varoufakis was spotted with his wife on a boat to the island of Aegina where he owes a holiday home.

The former finance minister chose to travel to his favourite destination at a time when a crucial debate is taking place in the Greek Parliament on the bailout proposals.

What do I mean by that? Based on months of negotiation, my conviction is that the German finance minister wants Greece to be pushed out of the single currency to put the fear of God into the French and have them accept his model of a disciplinarian eurozone.

The working masses do not forget that the same people who are today betraying the ideas and principles of the Left are the same people who had promised to get rid of the Memorandum “within one day and with one law”. It’s the same people who promised the Salonica Programme (SYRIZA’s more radical pre-election promises), which they claimed would be carried out irrespectively of the negotiations with the Troika.

The leading group in SYRIZA and Alex Tsipras has been proven tragically incapable of responding to the tasks of the moment and unworthy of the confidence of the working class. They are unworthy of the earth-shaking ‘No’ vote on 5 July which reverberated throughout Europe and the whole world.

The Communist party has called their first anti-austerity rally on Syntagma Square in Athens since Greek voters rejected a deal with international creditors in a referendum on July 5.

Innerhalb SYRIZA stoßen v.a. die 13 Mrd. umfassenden Kürzungsmaßnahmen und die Privatisierungen auf Widerstand. Angeführt von Panagiotis Lafazanis, Minister für produktiven Wiederaufbau, Umwelt und Energie, fordern Abgeordnete und Mitglieder des Politischen Sekretariats von SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras auf, der „Erpressung durch die Gläubiger“ nicht nachzugeben. In einer vierseitigen Stellungnahme kritisieren sie, dass die Regierung keinen alternativen Plan für den Fall des Grexit erarbeitet habe. Sie appellieren an Tsipras, ein Brückenprogramm für den Übergang zu einer nationalen Währung vorzubereiten. Die ‚Linke Plattform‘ von Lafazanis ist mit vier Ministern in der Regierung vertreten.

Trotz ihrer Kritik am Verhandlungsvorschlag von Tsipras werden sie wohl in der im Moment noch stattfindenden Parlamentssitzung (18 Uhr) bei der Abstmmung die Regierung unterstützen.

Paris und Rom begrüßten den griechischen Vorschlag, auch an den Finanzplätzen herrschte Optimismus. Berlin reagierte zurückhaltend auf die Liste aus Athen.

Griechenland steht vor einer Entscheidung historischen Ausmaßes: Wagt Syriza den Bruch mit allen bestehenden Verhältnissen oder kapituliert sie vor den EUropäischen Institutionen? Eins ist bereits jetzt klar: An der Lage Griechenlands gibt es nichts zu beschönigen. Das von der griechischen Regierung vorgelegte Papier hat wenig bis gar nichts mit einem guten und fairen Kompromiss zutun. Aber alle in Griechenland haben Angst, eine reale und tiefsitzende Angst vor dem Grexit.

Nicht einmal die Vorschläge haben sich wesentlich verändert. Man muss schon sehr genau nachschauen, an welchen Stellen die neue Liste abweicht von jenem Papier, das vor 14 Tagen auf dem Tisch lag – und das eine große Mehrheit der Griechen bei dem Referendum am vergangenen Sonntag abgelehnt hatte.

Sie machen nun explizit und nicht länger nur vage Versprechen wie die Privatisierung des Stromnetzes; sie akzeptieren Forderungen, die sie Stimmen kosten werden, wie der Verzicht auf die Subventionierung von Dieseltreibstoff für die Landwirte. Vor allem aber ist die Regierung in der Frage der Pensionen in die Knie gegangen: Die Sozialhilfe für Bezieher kleinster Pensionen soll bis Ende 2019 schrittweise entfallen, wie es vor allem der Internationale Währungsfonds will.

How is it possible for a devastating “no” to memorandum austerity policies to be interpreted as a green light for a new memorandum? And to put it in commonsense terms: if they were disposed to sign something even worse and even more binding than European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker’s proposals, what was the point of the referendum and the struggle to achieve victory in it?

The sense of the absurd is not just a product of this unexpected reversal. It stems above all from the fact that all of this is unfolding before our eyes as if nothing has happened, as if the referendum were something like a collective hallucination that suddenly ends, leaving us to continue freely what we were doing before.

Die Lage in Athen spitzt sich dramatisch zu. Bei einem Treffen der Parlamentarier des Linksbündnisses Syriza regt sich am Freitagmittag heftiger Widerstand der Linken Plattform gegen Alexis Tsipras‘ Reformvorschläge an die internationalen Geldgeber. Ministerrücktritte werden angekündigt. Die Linke Plattform fordert den Austritt Griechenlands aus dem Euro.

According to Panagiotis Lafazanis, minister of Energy and leader of the Left Platform, the agreement is „incompatible with Syriza‘s programme“ and „doesn‘t offer a positive perspective to the country“.
It is expected that the ministers of the Left Platform will resign within the day.
Thanassis Petrakos, one of the three speakers of Syriza‘s parliamentary group and prominent member of the Left Platform, declared: „The „No“ of the referendum was a radical and a class No. Some high-ranked comrades insist on the „there is no other way“ logic. We should prepare exiting the eurozone and say that clearly to the people. The Left has a future when it opens its wings to the unknown, not to nothingness. Those who insist on the choice of staying in the euro whatever the cost might be know that it is a disaster. We need a prepared exit to open up a new path. The first steps are the public control of the banks and of the Greek central bank and a crackdow on oligarchy“.

(27.Februar 2015) eine halbe Stunde zuvor hatte sich Gysi vor die Räume der Linke-Fraktion gestellt und gesagt: „Eine große Mehrheit wird mit Ja stimmen.“ Zum ersten Mal votiert die Linke für Griechenland-Hilfen. Und das, obwohl die Verlängerung des bestehenden Programms um vier Monate, um die es an diesem Freitag im Bundestag geht, im Kern dem gleicht, was seine Partei bislang stets verdammt hat.

Of course, that’s the European Union, a complex organism with numerous regional and national leaders that, in league with the International Monetary Fund, has so far committed $265 billion in bailout funds to Greece. But this is how the EU really works: Germany is the monetary union’s dominant economy, and its chancellor is the region’s dominant leader, with virtual veto power over zonewide decisions. That puts the spotlight squarely on Merkel. And what it’s revealed, despite her calm but firm entreaties, is an economic bully.

Das war´s. Und das war vor über einem Jahr. Was ist seitdem besser geworden? Nichts. Es ist alles nur schlimmer geworden. Aber es ist immer das Gleiche. Die Einen sehen das als Zufall an, wie überhaupt alles in der Politik, an der Börse und was sie im Fernsehen von Ferne sehen und schaffen es durch trainierte Zwiedenkerei gleichzeitig jedem und allem nur Schlechtes in die Schuhe zu schieben, der oder das sozial unter ihnen steht. Die Anderen haben keine Ahnung. Und eine kleine Minderheit, keineswegs kohärent, nennt es beim Namen, was hier abläuft:

ein Programm.

Alexis Tsipras is prostrating himself before the creditors with his new offer & asking for mercy. But even this may not be enough.

The Greek PM has adopted with very few changes the deal that he told the people to reject in last Sunday’s referendum. They voted OXI (NO) but he’s now advocating NAI (YES). That’s a tough sell which will probably split his Syriza party.

Sein Kollege in der Fraktionsführung, Hans-Peter Friedrich (CSU), misstraut den Vorschlägen ebenfalls. „Entweder die griechische Regierung trickst ihr eigenes Volk aus oder wieder mal uns“, sagte er im Deutschlandfunk.

Die Reformliste macht keine Hoffnung. Sie ist eine Kopie der harten Maßnahmen, die die Troika Athen schon im Juni aufdrücken wollte.

Wir mögen von Verhältnissen des „Großen Bruders“ sprechen – mittels der elektronischen Transaktionen wird wirklich alles aufgezeichnet -, nachdem jedoch die Balance bei den öffentlichen Einnahmen verloren gegangen ist, muss etwas Drastisches geschehen. Etwas, das bereits die Ökonomen auf der ganzen Welt diskutieren, wie der berühmte Harvard-Professor Kenneth Rogoff, der glaubt, „das Bargeld ist gestorben“. Es wurde im 7. Jahrhundert v. Chr. erfunden, hat sich über 3.000 Jahre lang gehalten, und auf eine gewisse Weise hat das Bargeld seinen Zyklus vollendet … .
