The two Koreas‘ Red Cross chiefs have agreed to hold another family reunions event as early as October.

Park Kyung-seo, the head of the South Korean Red Cross, said Saturday that he made the agreement with his North Korean counterpart during their talks on the sidelines of a meeting of families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War at the North‘s Mount Kumgang resort.

Sixty-seven-year-old Cho Jung-ki from the South, meeting his 88-year old father from the North,… whom he‘d never seen before Friday… as his father was separated from his wife when she was three months pregnant,… is concerned about his father‘s health. „This is red ginseng made in South Korea. Elderly North and South Koreans wept and embraced each other on Friday at a second round of temporary reunions of family members separated for decades by the Korean War.

The first meal in over six decades with long-lost family members started by cheering „love and peace“ together. Addressing the family banquet,.. the President of the South Korean Red Cross Park Kyung-seo said the reunion of war-separated families is one of the most imminent, humanitarian tasks,… stressing the Red Cross of the two Koreas will continue to work together on the matter.

One of the most heart wrenching moments was when one participant recognized a relative she‘d never known.

Yes Daniel. Son Kyung-cheol and his sisters met with their aunt in the North, Moon Seong-ok . Now although she is an aunt they have never seen before, they all burst into tears the moment they saw her as Moon looks just like their late mother, who passed away 5 years ago.

This morning, the participants had told the pool reporters there that they feel quite melancholy and sentimental as their reunions draws near to an end. Recalling their get-togethers over the past couple of days,… they said… they just could know that the North Korean participants were indeed their relatives… and could recognize the faces they saw when young… despite all the wrinkles.

One of them is 89-year old Yoo Gwan-sik. He‘s meeting his 67-year daughter, whom he‘s never seen before. Yoo said… he didn‘t even know his wife was pregnant when he decided to escape North Korea temporarily,… or so he thought. It was a decision that changed his life. After that he never saw his wife again, and never got to meet his daughter until now. Another story is heart-wrenching. 92-year old Lee Geum-seom ,… who‘s meeting her 71-year old son.

A life-long wait comes to an end for a select few divided families, thanks to a conciliatory mood on the Peninsula. Some 90 South Koreans were selected from a pool of tens of thousands who applied,… and they finally met their relatives today.

Only one place to start this morning…. and that‘s with the reunion of separated families that begins in a matter of hours. It‘s the first such event in three years. The families heading north as we speak have lived with the painful thought that they might pass away before seeing their loved ones again. But, finally, this afternoon,… that will change for the roughly 90 South Koreans who were selected from a pool of tens of thousands of South Koreans who applied.

They‘re scheduled to exchange the final lists on Saturday.
