Red Cross chiefs of two Koreas agree to hold more family reunions this year

The two Koreas‘ Red Cross chiefs have agreed to hold another family reunions event as early as October.

Park Kyung-seo, the head of the South Korean Red Cross, said Saturday that he made the agreement with his North Korean counterpart during their talks on the sidelines of a meeting of families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War at the North‘s Mount Kumgang resort.

Day 1 of second round of family reunions ends with family banquet

One of the most heart wrenching moments was when one participant recognized a relative she‘d never known.

Yes Daniel. Son Kyung-cheol and his sisters met with their aunt in the North, Moon Seong-ok . Now although she is an aunt they have never seen before, they all burst into tears the moment they saw her as Moon looks just like their late mother, who passed away 5 years ago.

War-torn families of two Koreas meeting for last time

This morning, the participants had told the pool reporters there that they feel quite melancholy and sentimental as their reunions draws near to an end. Recalling their get-togethers over the past couple of days,… they said… they just could know that the North Korean participants were indeed their relatives… and could recognize the faces they saw when young… despite all the wrinkles.

Part 1: S. Korean man meets N. Korean daughter for first time

One of them is 89-year old Yoo Gwan-sik. He‘s meeting his 67-year daughter, whom he‘s never seen before. Yoo said… he didn‘t even know his wife was pregnant when he decided to escape North Korea temporarily,… or so he thought. It was a decision that changed his life. After that he never saw his wife again, and never got to meet his daughter until now. Another story is heart-wrenching. 92-year old Lee Geum-seom ,… who‘s meeting her 71-year old son.

Koreas agree to hold military dialogue, family reunion talks this month

The two Koreas agreed Friday to hold general-level military talks on June 14 at the truce village of Panmunjom as part of efforts to ease tensions between the two countries.

They also agreed to hold a Red Cross meeting on June 22 at the North‘s Mount Kumgang resort to discuss holding a reunion of families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War.
