Despite fresh US airstrikes on Iranian military targets this week acknowledged by Trump and the Pentagon and the US bombing of a wedding Tuesday night—an attack that killed at least five Iranian civilians, including a 6-year-old child, and wounded nearly 70 others—Vance told reporters, “Right now, there’s no active shooting.”
In the very next breath, Vance said, “I recognize there have been places where this has flared up,” but contended that “major combat operations only lasted about six weeks,” as a way to make a case that “war” is not taking place.
