Having acknowledged that the U.S.-DPRK summit — the first in history — was an epochal event of great significance in overcoming decades of tensions and hostilities between the two countries and for the opening up of a new future, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un commit to implement the stipulations in this joint statement fully and expeditiously. The United States and the DPRK commit to hold follow-on negotiations, led by the U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and a relevant high-level DPRK official, at the earliest possible date, to implement the outcomes of the U.S.-DPRK summit.

Is the result of this summit reliable? Since there is no expression such as „complete,“ „verifiable“ or „irreversible denuclearization“ in the joint statement, some people from the US and South Korea may think the declaration is „not thorough enough“ and still doubt whether North Korea would eventually abandon its nuclear program. But the correct response should be promoting the thorough implementation of the agreement through continuous efforts.

Did anyone dare to believe that such a summit can actually take place half a year ago? A certain force is pushing such seemingly impossible things toward becoming possible.

This force is the new logic of international politics in the 21st century.
