A long aside

It could be said that personal letters represent something like „time machines“ when re-reading them. Yet the inner voices we „hear“ when reading letters also accompany us in our present daily lives, often only in fragments and by chance association. Perhaps even influencing our actions. How could one go about „decoding“ such random processes, even partly? And if words fail, then would sounds that lie out of language just be one more form of encoding?
